Four from SLIAC Earn AVCA Team Academic Award

Four St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference programs have earned Team Academic Award honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). Fontbonne University, Greenville University, Webster University, and Westminster College received the honor this year, meaning that half the league's volleyball programs received recognition. 

This is the 8th time the Fontbonne program has received the award, including two straight years. The Griffins are coached by Jimmy Stika.

Greenville University appears on the award list for the 12th time in program history and the fifth consecutive season. The Panthers are coached by Tom Ackerman. 

Webster University receives its 17th award in program history. They have received the award for 15 consecutive years, tied for the 10th longest active streak in NCAA Division III. The Gorloks are coached by Merry Graf. 

Westminster College picks up its first-ever award and is coached by Dalton Tucker. 

Seven of the eight volleyball programs in the SLIAC from last year have now won the award at some point during their program history with Blackburn College (2 times), Eureka College (2 times, and Principia College (11 times) joining this year's award winners. 

The AVCA Team Academic Award was established during the 1992-93 academic year and honors volleyball collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale. volleyball collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale.

A total of 1,342 teams from NCAA Division I, II, III, the NAIA, and high school levels were part of this year's record-breaking group. For a complete list of award recipients click HERE
