AROUND THE SLIAC
Chris Davis helped his Beaver basketball team notch their first
conference win of the season this year with 19 points, six rebounds
and two steals against Eureka. Davis was 4-of-6 from the field and
knocked down 9-of-11 free-throws. He followed with another 19 point
effort against Spalding three days later. |
The Red Devils' Nick Finney had an impressive first conference start of his career with a career-high 22 point game against Westminster. Finney was 10-of-15 from the field and added four rebounds and two assists. |
Fontbonne got back into the win column on Tuesday night with a 65-56 win over Principia. The Griffins have now won two of their last three games and closed to within one game of Westminster for the final SLIAC tournament spot. |
The Panthers Nick Trisko helped his team to a pair of conference
wins last week, topping Iowa Wesleyan and Principia. In two outings
Trisko, a freshman, averaged 16.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game.
He shot 78-percent from the field on the week, going 14-of 18. |
After suffering their first conference loss of the season on Jan.
14 the Tigers women's basketball team has responded with three
consecutive victories. The Tigers responded with wins over Webster,
Greenville and Fontbonne. |
The MacMurray men's basketball team is still chasing down Spalding
for the top spot in the SLIAC standings. The Highlanders have won
five straight games and put their streak on the line this weekend
with games against Iowa Wesleyan and Greenville. |
Kenny Sydness continues his battle for the SLIAC scoring title.
Sydness tallied back to back 20 point games including a 27 point
outburst against Greenville. On the season Sydness is leading the
SLIAC in scoring at 19.5 points per game. |
The Golden Eagles Brandon Goeing tallied at least 20 points in two of his three games last week. Goeing scored 24 points, with four three pointers, in a win over Westminster to start the week. He closed out the week with 28 points, including seven three's, in a win over Blackburn. |
Kevin Miller notched his fourth double-double of the season last
week in a game against MacMurray. Miller recorded 16 points and 10
rebounds in the game. He was 5-of-7 from the field and a perfect
6-of-6 from the free-throw line. On the week Miller averaged 18.0
points and 9.5 rebounds per game. |
Verdis Lee Jr. hot a hot hand for the Blue Jays last week with
three 20+ point games. Lee tallied 24 points against Spalding and
25 points against Eureka while exploding for 32 points, on 13-of-16
shooting, in a win over Principia. On the week Lee averaged 27.0
points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game while earning SLIAC
Player of the Week honors. |
