2013-14 Men's Basketball Players of the Week

FEB. 24 - WILLIAM BARBER, SPALDING UNIVERSITY
William Barber, a senior from New Albany, Ind., is this week's Player of the Week after helping his team secure the top seed in the SLIAC Tournament. Barber put together back to back 20 point games including a buzzer beating 60-foot shot  to cap an 18-point comeback against Westminster. Barber came off the bench and went 8-of-12 shooting for 20 points in a win over Greenville. He followed with 20 points in the win over Westminster, addeing two steals. On the week he averaged 20.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game. This marks the second time this season Barber has earned the weekly award.

FEB. 17 - AHMAD SMITH, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY
Ahmad Smith, a junior guard from St. Louis, Mo., is this week's SLIAC Player of the Week. Smith averaged 24.7 points per game in helping his team to a pair of wins last week. He started the week with 19 points and four assists in a win over Iowa Wesleyan. Smith then sparked the Gorloks to a win over Greenville with a career-high 34 points. Smith was 11-of-19 from the field and went 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. He added six rebounds and four steals in the contest. Smith closed out the week with 21 points and five rebounds against Spalding. On the week Smith average 24.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

FEB. 10 - JOE JAMES, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
Joe James, a senior guard from St. Louis, Mo., is this week's SLIAC Player of the Week. James averaged 26.0 points per game in helping the Blue Jays to a pair of conference wins. Against Greenville James was 10-of-14 from the field, scoring 25 points, while adding four steals and three assists. He followed with 27 points in a 78-75 win over Fontbonne. In that contest he added five rebounds and four assists. For the week James averaged 26.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game. This marks the second time this season James has won the Player of the Week award.

FEB. 3 -BRADY SLAGLE, MACMURRAY COLLEGE
Slagle, a senior forward from Winchester, Ill., is the SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season. Slagle guided MacMurray to a pair of conference wins last week, recording a double double in each game. Slagle scored 21 points while grabbing 13 rebounds in a win over Iowa Wesleyan. In that game he added four assists and one steal while shooting 8-of-16 from the field. Slagle followed with 13 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Greenville. On the week Slalge averaged 17.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

JAN. 27 - VERDIS LEE JR., WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
Verdis Lee Jr. is this week's SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Lee, a junior guard from Fulton, Mo., averaged nearly 30 points in three games last week, helping his team to a pair of wins. Lee tallied 24 points and six rebounds against Spalding to start the week. But he was just getting started. Lee had a hot hand in his next game, a win over Principia, when he poured in 32 points on 13-of-16 shooting. Lee wrapped up the week with 25 points in a win over Eureka, also recording seven rebounds, three assists and four blocks in the game. On the week Lee averaged 27.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.0 blocks per game.

JAN. 20 - LARRY PATTERSON
Larry Patterson, a senior guard from England, Ark., is this week's SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Patterson recorded back to back double-double's to close out the week including a 21 point effort in a win over Eureka. Patterson notched his first double-double of the week with 17 points and 10 rebounds against Webster. In that contest he also added three assists and four steals while hitting three three-pointers. He followed with 21 points, 14 rebounds and five assists in a 68-59 win over Eureka. In three games on the week Patterson averaged 15.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game.

JAN. 13 - BRADY SLAGLE, MACMURRAY COLLEGE
Brady Slagle, a senior forward from Winchester, Ill., is this week's SLIAC Player of the Week. Slagle averaged a double-double in two conference outings this week, averaging 22.0 points and 10.0 rebounds per game. Slagle put up 22 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in a win over Blackburn. He then followed two days later with 22 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, and eight rebounds against Spalding. This marks the second time this season Slagle has earned weekly honors.

JAN. 6 -WILLIAM BARBER, SPALDING UNIVERSITY
William Barber is this week's SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Barber, a senior forward from New Albany, Ind., was an integral part of his team's 68-66 comeback win over Fontbonne. Trailing by 15 points with just five-minutes remaining in the game Barber helped spark the Golden Eagles come back by converting a three-point play, starting a 16-0 run. Then with the game tied at 66, Barber hit the game winning shot with 5.2 seconds on the clock to secure the Spalding win. He finished the game with 12 points and three rebounds, knocking down all three of his free-throw attempts.

DEC. 30 - JOE JAMES, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
For the second consecutive week Joe James, a junior guard from St. Louis, Mo., has been named the SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. James' week was highlighted by a 32 point effort in his team's 82-80 win over Coe College. James went 10-of-17 from the field and 11-of-12 from the free-throw line as he paced all scorers. James added 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals in the contest. In two games for the week James averaged 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game. 

DEC. 23 -JOE JAMES, WESTMINSTER COLLEGE
James, a senior guard from St. Louis, Mo., sparked Westminster to an 83-65 win over Eureka last week in his team's only contest. James scored 12 of his team's first 14 points and finished with a game high 20 points. James was 8-of-11 from the field including a pair of three-pointers. He added five rebounds and one assist and one steal in the win.

DEC. 16 - SETH WICKERT, EUREKA COLLEGE
Wickert, a junior guard from Macomb, Ill., put together an oustanding all around performance last week in helping his team to a pair of wins. Wickert started the week with 16 points, six assists and five rebounds in a win over Lincoln Christian. He upped his performance in an overtime win over Webster, scoring 23 points while adding eight rebounds and four assists. On the week Wickert averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists with 1.5 steals per game. He shot 56.5 percent from the floor and hit on 7-of-12 three point attempts while committing just three turnovers. This is the second time this season Wickert has earned Player of the Week honors.

DEC. 9 - KEVIN MILLER, WEBSTER UNIVERSITY
Miller, a sophomore center from Belleville, Ill., is this week's SLIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Miller averaged 15.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game this week including a double-double performance against Greenville College. Miller netted 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in his team's 77-63 win over Greenville, shooting 8-of-11 from the field while adding two steals. Miller followed that game with a 13 point, seven rebound effort in a win over Fontbonne and closed out the week with a 14 point, five rebound game against Missouri S&T. On the week Miller shot 65.5 percent from the floor and added five total blocks.

DEC. 2 - SETH WICKERT, EUREKA COLLEGE
Wickert, a junior guard from Macomb, Illinois, scored a career-high 30 points in a narrow loss to North Park last week. Wickert tallied his 30 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point range. He added six rebounds, four assists and four steals in the game while knocking down 8-of-9 free-throws.

NOVE. 25 -RON HARRIS, GREENVILLE COLLEGE
Harris, a junior forward from Los Angeles, California, was the leading scorer in a pair of Greenville wins last week. Harris netted 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting in an 82-62 win over Lincoln Christian. He added 10 rebounds in the game, including four offensive rebounds. Harris followed with a 20 point, seven rebound game in a 93-65 win over Dominican (Ill.). For the week Harris averaged 18.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while shooting 59-percent from the field.

NOV. 18 - BRADY SLAGLE, MACMURRAY COLLEGE
Slagle, a senior forward from Winchester, Ill., picked up MVP honors in the Webster Cavallo Classic this past weekend after recording a pair of 20 point games. Slagle netted 24 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, adding four assists and three steals, in his team's season opening win; a 72-72 victory over Rust. He followed with 25 points and eight rebounds in his second outing. For the week Slagle averaged 24.5 points and 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 53-percent from the field.
