EUREKA — The Eureka women's soccer team made its season debut on Monday.

The Red Devils fell 7-0 to St. Mary-of-the-Woods, shaving 10 goals off their deficit when they took on the Pomeroys a year ago.

Carra Matherly and Alexis Pflum each posted two goals, while Mannah Mace, Ashley Jezik and Shelby Joy delivered the rest for the vistiors.

EC's sophomore goalkeeper, Abby Swope (Canton, Ill./Canton), racked up 21 saves. It was the sixth time she has notched at least 20 in a match in her career. With 256 career saves, she is now one behind Lindsay Coffey for fourth in program history.

Freshman Madison Shines (Maregon, Ill./Marengo Community) came up with EC's first shot and shot-on-goal of the season in the first half on a promising breakaway that was foiled by the St. Mary-Woods just in time to keep the Red Devils off the board.

EC's next contest will take place Saturday at Mount Mary at 6 p.m.
