Ashley Harfst Eclipses 1,000 Points as EC Falls at Greenvile, 80-55.
GREENVILLE, Ill. – Eureka senior Ashley Harfst (Saunemin, Ill./Pontiac) recorded the 1,000th point of her career as a Red Devil at Greenville on Wednesday evening, but the Red Devils couldn't keep pace with the Panthers, falling 80-55.
Olivia Falls (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) led EC with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. The sophomore shot 7-for-9 from the field and 4-for-5 from the free-throw line.
Harfst followed with 12 points and five rebounds while shooting 4-for-9 from the floor on her milestone night. She is the 17th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point mark and the first since Emily Camden in 2016.
Fellow senior Ja'Keesha Hawkins (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) added 10 points, six rebounds and three assists. Whitney Bozarth (Normal, Ill./Normal West) distributed a team-high four assists.
The Red Devils – who went 12-for-13 from the free-throw line on the night – hung with the home team for the first half. They led for most of the first quarter and only trailed by five at the half.
But in the third, the Panthers took over with a 30-point explosion while holding EC to just eight. The maroon and gold outscored Greenville 15-13 in the fourth, but the game was out of reach by then.
Greenville shot 46.2 percent from the field and 42.4 from distance, knocking down 14 triples by game's end. Eureka outscored the Panthers in the paint, 28-24, but the home team tallied 26 off turnovers.
Five Panthers reached double figures, with Emily Reinneck's 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting and 3-of-6 shooting from distance leading the way. She was one of three Panthers to hit at least three 3-pointers.
Hannah Krukewitt contributed a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Brittany Lopez, Haven Robertson and Ashley Anderson posted 13, 12 and 10 points off the bench, respectively. Lopez went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Eureka (9-7, 5-4 SLIAC) will next host Blackburn (4-10, 2-6 SLIAC) on Saturday inside Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena at 1 p.m.
