Webster Outmaches Red Devils, 90-70

EUREKA — St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leader Webster came to town on Saturday and handed the Eureka women's basketball team a 90-70 loss.

Eureka's Olivia Falls (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) recorded a team-high 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and hit all three of her free-throw opportunities. She also gathered a team-high eight boards.

Ashley Harfst (Saunemin, Ill./Pontiac) added 15 points while shooting 7-for-13 from the field. The senior is now only seven points away from reaching 1,000 career points as a Red Devil.

Whitney Bozarth (Normal, Ill./Normal West) contributed 11 points and Ja'Keesha Hawkins (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) tallied 10.

Marissa Murphy (Canton, Ill./Canton) and Jadyn Mitchell (Flanagan, Ill./Flanagan-Cornel) chipped in with eight and seven points off the bench, respectively.

Four Gorloks reached double figures: Jaysea Morgan (17), Addison Beussink (15), Naomi Johnson (14) and Hannah Cottrell.

The Red Devils didn't shoot significantly worse than Webster, going 25-for-63 from the field (39.7 percent) to the Gorloks' 36-80 (45 percent).

However, the visitors controlled the glass all afternoon, finishing with 57 rebounds and converting them to 23 second-chance points. EC comparatively gathered 23 and capitalized on 10 second-chance opportunities.

EC was within 12 at halftime, but Webster gradually pulled away to keep the Red Devils from getting within striking distance.

The Red Devils are now 9-6 on the season and tied with Spalding for fourth in the SLIAC. Webster improved to 9-6 and 7-1 in conference play.

EC will next face Greenville (8-6, 5-2) on the road on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
