2020 Diamond Sports Baseball Players of the Week

March 17, 2020 - Hitter of the Week
 

Adam Lovell, Webster University

Lovell had a busy week for the Gorloks, hitting .444 while scoring 9 runs and driving in 4 last week. He finished with a .615 on-base percentage, boosted by his five walks, and added seven stolen bases. Lovell was 9-for-18 at the plate, recording a hit in four of his five games including a four-hit outing against Washington & Jefferson. 

March 17, 2020 - Pitcher of the Week
 

Luke Summers, Fontbonne University

Summers picks up his second straight weekly award after notching a complete-game win over Principia. Summers worked 7 innings in the conference contest, allowing just two hits while striking out 13. He walked just three batters and tied his season-high in strikeouts.

March 9, 2020 - Hitter of the Week
 

Ryan Clavin, Westminster College

Clavin powered his way to the Diamond Sports SLIAC Hitter of the Week award with a .857 slugging percentage in six games for the Blue Jays last week. The senior outfielder hit .429 with four multiple-hit games on the week, leading his team to four wins. Clavin totaled 2 home runs and 6 RBI last week, striking out just once in 21 at-bats. Clavin closed out his week with a 2-for-3 game, scoring twice, and hitting 1 home run while driving in 3 and walking once. 

March 9, 2020 - Pitcher of the Week
 

Luke Summers, Fontbonne University

Summers showed mid-season form in his only appearance on the mound last week for the Griffins. The senior pitcher worked 7 innings against Saint Mary's (Minn.) notching the win for the Griffins. He allowed six hits and just one run while striking out a season-high 13 batters and walking just one. 

March 2, 2020 - Hitter of the Week
 

Garrett Wilson, Spalding University

Wilson continues his hot hitting, putting together a .500 batting average last week to earn SLIAC/Diamond Sports Hitter of the Week honors. The senior outfielder finished 7-of-14 at the plate over three games, helping the Golden Eagles to three wins. He tallied multiple hits in all three games while driving in six and scoring five times. Wilson also added two stolen bases. He finished with a .529 on-base percentage and .714 slugging percentage for the week while playing errorless defense and recording one outfield assist.

March 2, 2020 - Pitcher of the Week  
 

Garrett Mathews, Spalding University

Mathews receives his second weekly award this spring after recording his first collegiate win. The freshman pitcher from Louisville, Ky., worked 8 innings against Penn-State Behrend for the victory. He allowed just five hits while working eight scoreless innings, striking out six and walking just one. 

February 24, 2020 - Hitter of the Week  
 

Garrett Wilson, Spalding University

Wilson hit .583 for Spalding last week, helping the Golden Eagles to a pair of wins. The senior outfielder was 7-for-12 at the plate in three games, scoring five times and adding four stolen bases. The leadoff hitter reached base in all three games, totaling a .643 on-base percentage. He had a four-hit effort against Dubuque, the same game in which he recorded three stolen bases. Wilson also drove in two runs and struck out just twice while drawing one walk. 

  February 24, 2020 - Pitcher of the Week
 

Zach Jones, Spalding University

Jones receives the SLIAC Pitcher of the Week award after recording a six-inning shutout win over Dubuque. Jones, a junior from Louisville, Ky., threw 6 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and one walk. He tallied 13 strikeouts in the win, striking out six of the first seven batters he faced.

  February 17, 2020 - Hitter of the Week
 

Evan Trentman, Spalding University

Trentman opens up his season as the SLIAC Hitter of the Week after going 6-for-13 in four games over the weekend. He had multiple hits in three of the four games and added one run batted in. Trentman also drew three walks, striking out just once, and finished the week with a .462 batting average and a .563 on-base percentage. Hitting second in the lineup, he scored four runs and stole two bases. 

February 17, 2020 - Pitcher of the Week
 

Garrett Mathews, Spalding University

The freshman pitcher from Louisville, Kentucky was impressive in his collegiate debut for Spalding. Mathews worked 4 2/3 innings in his start, allowing just one run on two hits. He was effectively wild, recording 10 strikeouts despite walking five batters. He finished with 19.23 strikeouts per nine innings ratio and recorded a 1.93 earned-run average for the week. His double-digit strikeouts are the most by a Golden Eagle in their debut since 2014.
