SLIAC Track and Field Championship Preview

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship is back in Greenville, Illinois this weekend 2022 Men's and Women's Championships. The Greenville men's program will be looking to extend its title streak to five while the women's program is attempting to win its first-ever back-to-back titles.

Friday's events will start at 4 p.m. and include the pole vault, hammer throw, javelin, high jump, and 10,000 meter run with the remainder of events taking place on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. The final event, the relay, is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

  • Bryce Logsdon has a team-best time of 1:00.73 in the 400-meters
  • Javy Garcia is the Red Devils' top long-distance runner with a season-best time of 2:28.64 in the 800-meters

  • Sarah Kimbro is coming off a season-best time in 3000 Steeplechase 
  • Karissa Heffernan is in the Top 10 in the SLIAC in the 1500 meters

  • KeYonn Hall-Baker sits in the top 10 in the conference in both the high jump and long jump as well as the 200-meters
  • Cameron Clemons is the teams top distance runner
  • Ian Cordell is the team's top thrower and sits 8th in the javelin
 

Women's Team 
2021 Finish: 3rd
Who to Watch

  • Madelyn Huffstetter set a program record last weekend with a 12.68 second 100-meter dash, 3rd best in the conference this spring
  • Alex Lofgren and Desiree Brooks will both run in multiple events and are in the top six in the SLIAC
  • Pole vaulter Rachel Kelly will compete for gold behind her season best mark of 8'0.5"
  • Thrower Jillian Venegas should grab multiple medals, coming into the weekend in the top five in the SLIAC in three throwing events

Men's Team

Who to Watch

  • CJ Anderson will look to claim the fastest runner and holds the top mark in the conference in the 100-meters and is 3rd in the 200-meters
  • Dylan Goodyear, Kaleb Carlson, and Giani Estrada form a formidable trio in the distance events
  • Nate Brown will look for a hat trick in throwing events as he is the conference leader in the discus, shot put, and hammer
  • Dylan Webster will compete in several events and is coming off his first-ever completion in the decathlon

Who to Watch

  • Cayden Sharp will look to become the conference's all-time leader in medals, needing just four to set a new mark
  • Olivia Mansfield will challenge for medals in the distance events
  • Katieanna Williams has a conference-best mark of 36'10.5" in the triple jump this spring
  • Tawny Rodriguez will look to defend her gold in the shot put and hammer and is the conference leader in the discus this year

Who to Watch

  • Corey Carter will look to reclaim his title as SLIAC's fastest man. After taking the title in both the 100 and 200 in 2019 he is 1st (200m & 400m) and 3rd (100m) this spring.
  • Josh Aleman will look for gold in the 400 hurdles where is a conference-best time of 59.21 this spring
  • Tobin Blair and Jacob Warrick give the Panthers the top two marks in the javelin among SLIAC competitors this year
 

Women's Team 
2021 Finish: 4th
Who to Watch

  • Abby Holt is the face of the women's team, ranking in the top seven in the league in four events
  • Emme Schaefer is the team's top distance runner and will aim for a medal in the 1500-meters
  • Delaney Gatine had a season-best throw in the javelin last weekend, 91'11", good for 5th in the SLIAC

  • Victoria Shedron is one of the top distance runners in the league, leading the SLIAC in 5000 meters this spring

Who to Watch

  • Elijah Perez will join the list of runners attempting to take home medals in the sprint events
  • Kaelin Triggs gives the Gorloks a chance for points in the distance events
  • Cameron Sakuma has the league's top time in the 10,000 meters
  • Armond Williams will compete in several events
  • Jeremiah Johnson is the team's top thrower

Who to Watch

  • Danielle Schultz sits in 1st in the SLIAC in the 800-meters and 2nd in the 1500-meters
  • Vanessa Jones is one of the top hurdlers in the conference and will attempt to double up on medals in the 100m & 400m
  • Isabelle Llewellyn has her eyes set on medaling in the hammer and javelin where she is in the top five in the league in both events

Who to Watch

  • Devonte Hubbard is the premiere jumper in the league, holding league top marks in both the high jump and long jump
  • Dexter Allen is the Blue Jays' top runner and will compete in several events

  • A national qualifier from last year, Avylina Powel-Qualo will look to defend her SLIAC title in the high jump
