Greenville College Claims SLIAC Sportsmanship Award

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced Greenville College as the winner of the 2011-12 overall Sportsmanship Award.

The Panthers finished in the top three in the team Sportsmanship Award voting in six of the 11 sports that the College sponsors, only one behind Westminster College (Mo.) with seven top three finishes. Greenville also won a conference-best four team Sportsmanship Awards, including women's cross country, men's soccer, men's basketball and women's tennis.

Greenville appeared on 49 of 92 ballots cast, and finished the year with a total of 163 points.

The SLIAC overall Sportsmanship Award was created in 2010-11 and is based on voting from the 12 team Sportsmanship Awards. In the team Sportsmanship Award voting, each individual school votes for three schools with points awarded on a 5-3-1 basis. The school with the highest point total is declared the winner of the SLIAC overall Sportsmanship Award.
