SLIAC Helps Donate Over 1500 Canned Food Items
The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and its ten member institutions teamed together this fall to help collect over 1500 canned food items to be donated to local food pantrys.
This past fall the SLIAC and members of the conference's Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) agreed to initiate a conference wide community service competition. The goal is to give back to the community and further develop citizenship among its student-athletes. Each institution and their SAAC committee will hold five canned food drives this year, one for each of the conference's team sports, with the collected donations going to a local food pantry.
This fall, collecting at soccer and volleyball competitions, the SLIAC members collected a total 1513 canned food items. Three institutions collected over 200 items each with Principia College leading the way with 420 items. The school that collects the most canned goods during each drive will earn recognition by the SLIAC with the year's overall leader receiving a traveling trophy.
