SLIAC Championship Saturday Concludes With A Gorlok Sweep

ST. LOUIS - Webster University made St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) history by claiming all three Fall Tournament Championships today (November 7). It marks the first time in Conference history that a school has claimed all three Tournament titles in the Fall season.

The Webster men's soccer team started the day with a 1-0 victory on the road at top-seeded Greenville College. Andy Rudroff scored the lone goal for the Gorloks early in the first half to give his squad the victory. Goalkeeper Matt Geringer, who was named Tournament MVP, was solid in goal and recorded the shutout. The Tournament Championship is the third in Webster history, and it is the second straight year that the #2-seeded team has claimed the crown.

Joining Geringer on the Men's Soccer All-Tournament Team were teammates Mike Riti, Eric Fuchs and Rudroff. Also named to the All-Tournament Team were Greenville College's Joel Robinson, Nathan Mayberry and Terrance Cosby, Fontbonne University's Steve Blincoe and Kevin Vonarx, and Principia College's Paul Sanderude and Paul Olsen.

The Webster women's soccer team was also seeded #2 in the Tournament and battled top-seeded Principia to a 1-1 tied through double overtime, marking the fourth straight year that the women's championship game has gone into overtime. The Gorloks captured the title by holding a 5-4 advantage in penalty kicks, with the deciding kick being netted by Tournament MVP, Jenna Steiner. It is the fourth time that Webster has claimed the Tournament crown, and their first as the #2-seed.

Joining Steiner on the Women's Soccer All-Tournament Team were teammates Shelby Wade, Jessica Schellerup and Christy Capkovic, who scored Webster's lone goal in regulation play. Also named to the All-Tournament Team were Principia College's Mel Stein, Carey Erwin and Cristina Post, Fontbonne University's Ava Johnson and Kendra Schilli, and Greenville College's Kim Reddell and Annie Sevy.

The Gorlok volleyball squad claimed their fourth consecutive Tournament Championship, and their eighth overall. Top-seeded Webster swept #4-seed Fontbonne University, 3-0, in the semifinal round to advance to the championship match. #2-seed Greenville College also swept #3-Eureka College, 3-0, in the semifinals. The Panthers did not go down without a fight, as they took Webster to five sets. The Gorloks won the deciding set, 15-13, to take the crown.

Webster's Jackie Schall was named the Tournament MVP, while teammates Abby Williams and Stefanie Larson were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Joining the three were Greenville's Alyssa Cliffe and Katelin Feyerabend, Fontbonne's Kelly Lindsay and Eureka's Heather Myers.
