SLIAC Senior Send-Off: Tennis

SLIAC Senior Send-Off: Tennis

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference would like to send our best wishes to its 2019-20 senior tennis players. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, all spring seasons were canceled and while the NCAA has announced that seniors will not lose a year of eligibility due to the cancelation, not all will return. With that in mind, we salute the 2019-20 seniors.

This year's senior class includes 27 players that accounted for a SLIAC Player of the Year and three SLIAC Newcomer of the Year award winners. In addition, there was a total of 24 All-Conference selections and six All-Sportsmanship winners.

From the moment Daniel Gomez stepped onto the courts at Principia College he made a name for himself. In just one full year with the Panthers Gomez was named the SLIAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year while being named First Team All-Conference in singles and Second Team All-Conference in doubles. Gomez amassed a 27-3 record in singles play and collected three Player of the Week awards. His teammate Greg Sovie was a six-time All-Conference selection, winning three Player of the Week awards, and was the 2017 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year.

Webster University's Riley Muren has taken home five Player of the Week awards during his career, including all three this spring while being named Second Team All-Conference. Greenville University's Austin Burkhart earned All-Conference honors five times during his career including First Team in singles in 2018. Michael Rois, from Westminster College, was selected as the Blue Jays All-Sportsmanship recipient in 2019.

The Greenville women's team has four seniors on the roster. Courtney Blaser picked up All-Conference honors twice while also receiving an All-Sportsmanship nod and winning one Player of the Week award. Annie Bellinger earned All-Conference honors three times including both singles and doubles nod in 2019. Madi Walsh joined her as an All-Conference selection as her doubles partner last spring while Emma Wieland finishes with All-Conference honors, an All-Sportsmanship award, and the 2018 SLIAC Newcomer of the Year.

Clara Baldwin wraps up her stellar Blue Jay career as a three-time All-Conference selection, winning SLIAC Newcomer of the Year in 2017, and receiving one Player of the Week award.

Erica Bechtold (Blackburn College) and Fontbonne University's Emily Bay and Sarah Johnson all received All-Sportsmanship awards during their career.

We wish the best of luck to every student-athlete as they move forward and salute them for their efforts in competition and the classroom over the years!
