Sovie and Wolfram Awarded SLIAC Post Graduate Scholarship

This year's recipients of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Post-Graduate Scholarships are Greg Sovie and Katie Wolfram. Established in 2002, the SLIAC Post-Graduate Scholarship is awarded each spring to one male and one female graduating student-athlete from a conference member school.

This year's male recipient is Greg Sovie, from Principia College. Sovie, a men's tennis player, is a Political Science major with a 3.6 grade-point average. Sovie is a three-time All-Conference performer and former SLIAC Men's Tennis Newcomer of the Year. He has been a part of three SLIAC Championship teams, serving as a team captain in each of the last two years. That leadership has grown off the court as well, talking to Boys and Girls Clubs and other community events about how he has succeeded on and off the court while living with cerebral palsy. On-campus he has served on the Principia Student-Athlete Advisory Council and as the Vice President of his house. Sovie plans on pursuing a Master's Degree in Human Resources.

Katie Wolfram is the 2020 female scholarship award winner. Wolfram was a four-year member of the Greenville University women's basketball team and carries a 3.9 grade-point average while majoring in Exercise Science and Pre-Physical Therapy. After suffering through three knee injuries in her collegiate career, she found her passion; becoming a physical therapist. Wolfram is a certified Special Olympics coach and has volunteered with FAYCO Enterprises where she taught physical activities to workers with special needs, SCORE International where she went on a mission trip to Costa Rica, and at the Greenville Penitentiary. Wolfram has been already been accepted and admitted into the Doctor of Physical Therapy program as Washington University in St. Louis.

Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR), must have earned two varsity letters in a sport in which the Conference sponsors a Championship and have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale). Scholarship recipients are selected through a vote of the Conference FARs and receive a $1000 scholarship to be used at some point during their first two years of postgraduate studies.
