Greenville Secures Regular Season Title and Top Seed

The men's tennis team clinched the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SLIAC tournament with a 7-2 win against Principia on Tuesday in Greenville. With the win, Greenville ended Principia's four-season reign as regular season champion, spanning five years.

Greenville's doubles pairings of No. 1 Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez along with No. 3 Austin Burkhart and Thibaut Tignee started the match with identical 8-5 wins.

Entering singles competition with a 2-1 lead, Greenville secured the match with Tignee's 6-3, 6-3 victory in No. 6 singles.

Greenville recorded wins in the No. 2 through No. 6 slots.

No. 2 Rodriguez went to a tiebreaker before finishing with a 4-6, 6-1, 10-4 win.

No. 3 Clark Kent captured a 6-3, 6-2 triumph, and No. 4 Luke Motsinger grabbed a 6-1, 6-0 win.

In No. 5 singles, Burkhart rolled to dominating 6-0, 6-1 victory

The Greenville Panthers (17-2, 3-0 SLIAC) host Rose-Hulman on Saturday at 11 a.m. in their final match of the regular season. In the SLIAC tournament on May 6, Greenville will attempt to become the third school to win the tournament championship. The title went to Principia every season since 2014, only missing the canceled 2020 campaign, and 18 times overall. Westminster won the other 12 championships.
