Fontbonne's Marissa Simon Named NFCA All-American

ST. LOUIS - Fontbonne University freshman shortstop Marissa Simon was recently named a National Fastpitch Coaches Assocation (NFCA) 2011 Louisville Slugger Honorable Mention All-American.

Simon led the Griffins in hits (52), runs scored (35), triples (5) and stolen bases (29). She hits .419 on the season with 31 RBI's, second most on the team. Simon had 29 stolen bases in 31 attempts.

Simon has already been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Newcomer of the Year, SLIAC First Team All-Conference and NFCA First-Team All-Region. She is the first All-American out of the Fontbonne softball program since 2005.

Simon helped lead Fontbonne to a 29-10 overall record and a second straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Griffins won the SLIAC regular season championship outright for the first time since 2003 and won their second straight SLIAC Tournament.
