Seven Softball Players Named NFCA All-Midwest Region

ST. LOUIS - Seven St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) softball players have been named to the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) All-Region Teams. Spalding University's Tia McIntosh, Fontbonne University's Danni Glixman and Blackburn College's Brianna Markel were all first team selections. Fontbonne's Cassi Glixman and Sarah Cerutti were both named to the second team, while Samantha Rosner and Blackburn's Taylor Martin were third team, at-large selections.

McIntosh, a third baseman, was named NFCA First Team All-Great Lakes Region. She was also first team All-SLIAC as a utility player. She led the Golden Eagles in batting average (.344), runs batted in (29), doubles (11) and walks (18), while ranking in the top three in five other statistical categories.

Danni Glixman, also a third baseman, was named NFCA First Team All-Midwest Region. In addition to earning first team All-SLIAC as a third baseman, she also earned SLIAC Newcomer of the Year honors. She led Fontbonne in seven statistical categories, including batting average (.488), slugging percentage (.810), on base percentage (.523), hits (59), runs batted in (43), doubles (18) and total bases (98).

Markel, an outfielder, was the 2012 SLIAC Player of the Year and was a NFCA First Team All-Midwest Region selection. She led Blackburn in batting average (.450), slugging percentage (.845), on base percentage (.517), runs scored (48), hits (58), doubles (13), triples (7), home runs (8), total bases (109), stolen bases (32) and total plate appearances (149).  Markel was also a first team All-SLIAC honoree and was named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team.

Cassi Glixman and Cerutti were awarded Second Team All-Midwest Region honors and first base and outfield respectively. Glixman, who also earned first team All-SLIAC at first base, posted a .405 batting average this season and led the Griffins in runs scored (35) and at bats (126). She and Cerutti both had a team-high 141 total plate appearances this season, while Cerutti had a team-best four triples and 10 home runs. Cerutti was also named first team All-SLIAC as an at-large selection.

Rosner, a catcher, was named Third Team All-Midwest Region At-Large. She was second team All-SLIAC and was also named to the SLIAC All-Tournament Team. She posted a .306 batting average with 28 RBI, 38 hits, three doubles, three triples, two home runs and 18 stolen bases. Rosner also had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 203 putouts and 22 assists.

Martin, also a catcher, was named Third Team All-Midwest Region At-Large. She was first team All-SLIAC and ranked in the top three in 11 statistical categories for the Beavers. Martin finished the season with a .414 batting average, 53 hits, 28 RBI, five doubles and three home runs.
