Bruns Named New Head Coach of Iowa Wesleyan Women's Basketball

Iowa Wesleyan University has announced Jack Bruns as the next women's basketball coach, effective immediately.

"Through this search process, it was clear Jack was the right person for this role. With such strong tradition and history in the program, expectations are high. I am confident Coach Bruns can continue a culture of academic and athletic success for our women's basketball team," said Dr. Wes Brooks, Vice President for Student Development.

Bruns will become the eleventh Head Women's Basketball coach for Iowa Wesleyan University. He will take over after serving as the University's Director of Career Development, Internships, and Service Learning for the past year. Prior to his role in Career Services, Bruns was an assistant for the men's basketball program and an admissions counselor.

"I am extremely honored and humbled with the opportunity to help build on the success the Women's Basketball program has already experienced. I am thankful for the guidance of President Titus, Dr. Wes Brooks, and Acting Athletic Director Derek Zander throughout this process," stated Bruns. "Their vision for Tiger Athletics is exciting and something that I very much want to be a part of. I've called Mount Pleasant "home" for the last three years and I look forward to further ingraining myself and my family into this community."

Bruns brings a wealth of NCAA Division III experience to his new role. In his two years as an assistant coach, Iowa Wesleyan was in the middle of their transition to becoming a member of the NCAA Division III. He also attended and played for Central College, which is a NCAA Division III institution in Pella, Iowa.

"I am excited to have Jack back as a member of the athletic department. His passion and knowledge for the game of basketball, paired with his experience in NCAA Division III make him a great fit for this position," said Acting Athletic Director Derek Zander. "Jack's time spent as an admissions counselor and an assistant coach will also be beneficial in this role, and I look forward to seeing what he will do with the future of Iowa Wesleyan Women's Basketball."

Jack is a 2011 graduate of Central College. He received his master's in Business Leadership from William Penn University in December of 2015. Bruns resides in Mount Pleasant, Iowa with his wife, Allison.
