Big Second Half Powers Lady Eagles Past Eureka

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Spalding University women's basketball team used a big second half to power past Eureka College, 63-37.

Kayla Styles led the Lady Eagles with a double-double scoring 15 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Brandy Hunter provided a lift off the bench with 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field.

Emily Camden paced the Red Devils with 14 points, and Kelsey Shoemake added 12 points and 11 boards.

Despite shoot outshooting Eureka, the Golden Eagles only led by one point at the half due to 11 turnovers. Spalding started slow and trailed 6-3 three minutes into the game. SU outscored the Red Devils 6-2 over the next 2:23 taking a 9-8 lead on a Kayla Riggs three-pointer. EC responded with a 4-0 run, but Spalding scored the next 11 points to take a 20-13 lead, and led 27-26 at the half.

The Golden Eagles took control early in the second half scoring the first seven points to stretch their lead to eight points at the 14:39 mark.  A Kelsey Shoemake layup cut Spalding's lead to four points at 34-30 with 13:32 remaining, but a 10-0 run pushed SU's lead fourteen points and the Golden Eagles pulled away to win 63-37.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action when they take on Principia College Saturday, January 3 at 7:00 p.m. EST.
