2023 Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week

Field Athlete of the Week
  Talahiva Talanoa, Greenville University

The sophomore thrower won a pair of events last weekend while also finishing 4th in the discus. She won the hammer throw with a lifetime best distance of 146'3". She also took top honors in the shot put with a mark of 38'9". 

Track Athlete of the Week
  Sara Yakana, Greenville University

Yakana was part of two 1st place finishes at the Twilight Meet; taking first in the 200-meter dash and participating in the winning 4x100-meter relay team. Her time of 26.66 seconds in the 200 was a lifetime best. She also served as the anchor for the Panthers relay team which finished in 48.31 seconds.

Field Athlete of the Week
  Ashley Smith, Greenville University

Smith recorded a pair of personal bests at the Greenville Select while finishing 2nd in the shot put with a mark of 40'7". She also had a lifetime-best throw in the hammer throw and finished 7th in the discus. 

Track Athlete of the Week
  Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Sharp had two 2nd place finishes and a 4th place showing last weekend. She finished 2nd in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.24 seconds at the Greenville Select. She also finished 2nd in the 4x100 relay and 4th in the heptathlon at the Indiana State meet.

Field Athlete of the Week
  Laila Graham, Greenville University

Graham recorded three 2nd place finishes at the True Blue Invite; long jump, triple jump, and high jump. She had a mark of 17'4.25" in the long jump and currently sits in second place among SLIAC competitors this spring in both the triple jump and high jump.

Track Athlete of the Week
  Moenasia Sidique, Westminster College

Sidique took 1st place in the 400-meter dash at the Bearcat Classic. The sophomore finished in a time of 1:01, the fastest time by a SLIAC runner this spring.

Field Athlete of the Week
  Lainey Hicks, Greenville University

Hicks, a freshman, used a pair of lifetime bests to pick up points in two events at the WashU Invite. Her best showing was a 3rd place finish in the long jump, recording a 16'1.75" mark. She also finished 6th in the triple jump and helped the Panthers to a second-place finish as a team.

  Karissa Heffernan, Eureka College

The sophomore runner captured a 3rd place finish in the 1500-meter run at the Big Blue Invite over the weekend. She finished in a time of 5:17 and also competed in the 800-meter run, finishing 10th with a time of 2:34.

Field Athlete of the Week
  Tawny Rodriguez, Greenville University

Rodriguez picked up three top-five finishes at the WashU 5-Way. She took 1st in the shot put with a distance of 41'0" and 2nd place in the discus with a mark of 128'6". She also placed 5th in the hammer throw and currently leads all SLIAC competitors in the shot put and discus this spring.

  Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Sharp had a pair of 3rd place showings at the WashU 5-Way over the weekend. The senior finished the 100-meter dash in 12.30 seconds and the 100-meter hurdles in 15.12 seconds. Both times lead all conference runners and she is currently 9th in D3 in the 100-meter dash.

Track Athlete of the Week
  Shyanne Hagen, Spalding University

Hagen notched eight points for the Golden Eagles thanks to her 2nd place finish in the long jump at the Jim Vargo Invite. The freshman marked 13'4.25" in the event, the third-best mark in program history. She also competed in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 14.41 seconds.

Field Athlete of the Week
  Isabelle Llewellyn, Webster University

Llewellyn had a pair of personal best throws including a program record in the weight throw. The sophomore finished with a mark of 45'9.75" in the weight throw, finishing 3rd at the Indiana State Open. She also set a personal best in the shot put with a distance of 33'8.5", placing 5th.

  Rachel Fisher, Eureka College

Fisher picked up a pair of personal best times at the Hilltop Classic over the weekend. She finished her 400-meter race with a time of 1:04.42, the second fastest by a SLIAC runner this year. Her time of 2:28.72 in the 800-meter race is the fastest in the conference this season by nearly four-seconds.

Field Athlete of the Week
  Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Sharp is once again the weekly award winner, this time after being named the Field Athlete of the Meet at the NCCAA Championships. The senior set a school record in the pentathlon and finished with lifetime bests in the high jump, shot put, and 800 meters while also winning the 60 hurdles.

  Vanessa Jones, Webster University

Jones, a graduate student, placed 8th in the 60-meter hurdles at the Ichabod Invite last weekend. She finished with a time of 9.34 seconds and set the school record in the prelims with a time of 9.33 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in the SLIAC this season.

Field Athlete of the Week
  Tawny Rodriguez, Greenville University

Rodriguez placed in the top five in two events last weekend, finishing 2nd in the shot put and 5th in the weight throw. Her distance of 40'1" in the shot put was a season-best as was her mark of 45'9" in the weight throw. 

Track Athlete of the Week
  Vanessa Jones, Webster University

The graduate student took 1st place in the 55-meter hurdles at the Jim Green Invite last weekend. Jones finished in a time of 8.78 seconds, besting the next runner by 0.78 seconds.

Field Athlete of the Week
  Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Competing in the pentathlon, Sharp broke the school record with 3395 points and took 1st in the Principia Relays. She set a program pentathlon record in the high jump at 5'4.25". 

Track Athlete of the Week
  Rachel Fisher, Eureka College

Competing against a field full of Division II runners, Fisher placed 1st in the 500-meters over the weekend while also running in the 300-meter ace. She had a winning time of 1:23, setting a new personal record and marking the first Red Devil to win in a spring distance event since 2018.

The sophomore thrower picked up a pair of 3rd-place showings at the Snow Bird Invite. She set a new personal record in the shot put with a distance of 39'5" and marked 43'7.25" in the weight throw. 

Track Athlete of the Week
  Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Sharp opened the year up with a new program record in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing in 8.39 seconds. She placed 1st at the Snow Bird Invitational and also competed in the 4x400 relay, finishing 3rd.
