Griffins Fall in Straight Sets to #1 Team

The Fontbonne University women's volleyball team saw its 2022 season came to an unfortunate end after falling in straight sets against No. 1 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at NCAA Regionals.

Set Notes

Set 1: The Athenas started fast with a 6-0 lead forcing Fontbonne to take a timeout. CMS remained in control the rest of the way going on for the 25-13 win.

CMS totaled 15 kills and a .324 hitting percentage in the first, while the Griffins were limited to five kills and a negative -.037 hitting percentage.

Set 2: The Griffins had a much better start in the second going point-for-point with the Athenas. Fontbonne eventually tied it 13-13 after going on a 3-0 run getting kills from Hannah Gallagher and Ella Werner-Click, to go along with a service ace from Emma Harrop.

However, the Athenas went on a 7-0 run and never looked back fending off Fontbonne for the 25-19 win.

Fontbonne totaled 13 kills and a .158 hitting percentage in the second set. CMS finished with 16 kills and a .361 hitting percentage.

Set 3: Fontbonne jumped out to a 3-2 lead, but the Athenas rattled off a 5-0 run after a Griffins attack error gave them the 7-3 advantage.

Leading 16-9, the Athenas finished out the set and the match on a 9-0 run going on for the 25-9 victory.

• Defensively, the Griffins ended with 38 digs.
• The Athenas ended with 48 kills and a .400 hitting percentage.
