Gorloks Three-Peat; Defeat Fontbonne 14-3 for SLIAC Tournament Championship

HIGHLAND, Ill. - The Webster University baseball team defeated Fontbonne University 14-3 to capture their third consecutive St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Tournament Championship. The Gorloks (31-12), swept through the winner's bracket of the four-team tournament to take home their sixth title overall and receive an automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament.

The Gorloks and Griffins put on an offensive display in the championship game, combining for 25 hits total. Fontbonne finished 10-for-38 at the plate compared to Webster's 15-for-40. The Gorloks scored in all but two innings, taking an early 6-0 leave in the first two innings and tallying a team total 13 RBI for the game.

Webster was led by first baseman Tom Henke at the plate, who finished 4-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored. He would also earn Tournament MVP honors. The Gorloks also had four players with two hits a piece, including Cody Stevenson, Taylor Stoulp, Mike Rainbolt and Dustin List. Rainbolt and List added two RBI each, and Stoulp had one RBI.

Cody Hafeli recorded the win on the mound for Webster. He went 7.0 complete innings, allowing nine hits, three runs and no walks, and striking out seven batters. Hafeli improved to 8-1 on the season with the win and was also named the All-Tournament Team. Reliever Mike Gebhardt pitched 2.0 scoreless innings and struck out four batters while giving up only one hit and two walks.

Fontbonne's Sean Fisher finished 3-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and one double. Mark O'Moran was the only other Griffin to record more than one hit, as he went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Fisher was one of only three non-pitchers to earn All-Tournament honors and was joined on the All-Tournament team by teammates Jordan Jereb and Jacob Becker. Becker pitched a complete game victory in Game 5 over Greenville College, while Jereb had a complete game victory in Game 3 over Westminster College (Mo.). 

Webster pitchers David Mueller and Isaac Behme were also named to the All-Tournament Team. Mueller pitched 8.0 scoreless innings in Game 1 versus Westminster and had nine strikeouts. Behme picked up the win in Game 4, throwing 7.0 complete innings and recording five strikeouts.

Greenville's Tyler Mitchell and Cole Lawson also received All-Tournament Team honors, along with Andy Pichler from Westminster.
