Westminster's Backes Surpasses 1,000-Point Plateau in Win

Fulton, Mo. - Senior Rachel Backes (Tipton, Mo./Tipton) scored a game-high 24 points and surpassed the 1,00-point barrier in her career in leading the Westminster College women's basketball squad to an 88-60 home victory over Fontbonne University in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play Wednesday. Backes has scored 1,004 points in her four-season career and is the sixth Blue Jay to reach that elusive plateau.

Westminster (8-2, 3-0 SLIAC) trailed 2-0, but tied the game and took the lead for good 4-2 on the way to a 44-33 halftime advantage. Fontbonne (4-7, 1-1 SLIAC) cut the deficit to 59-54, however the Blue Jays used a 13-0 run to put the game away.
