Webster Draws First Round Matchup with Nationally Ranked #2 Washington University-St. Louis

ST. LOUIS - The Webster University volleyball team's march to the NCAA III Volleyball Championships has taken them down Big Bend Boulevard for a first-round match-up with Washington University on Friday, November 11 at 8:00 p.m. For Webster volleyball fans, the pairing may give one a sense of deja vu. The Gorloks faced the Bears in their last NCAA appearance, at the Washington University field house on November 12, 2009, at 8:00 p.m.

The Gorloks (19-12) were the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season co-champions, and the 2011 SLIAC Tournament Champions, defeating Greenville College (IL), 3-0. This is the Gorloks fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Webster faces a tough challenge in the Bears (32-1), who have won an NCAA III record 10 national championships.

Webster is led by a pair of freshman outside hitters, Jenny Howard (Duchesne HS) and Jordan Vehlewald (Lafayette HS). Howard, who was the 2011 SLIAC Volleyball Newcomer of the Year and a SLIAC All-Conference First Team selection, leads the Gorloks with 2.96 kills per set and a 0.327 hitting percentage. Vehlewald, the 2011 SLIAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, averages 2.69 kills and 3.40 digs per set.

Webster travelled to Washington U. for a match on October 26, losing 3-0. The Gorloks are a regular visitor to Washington U.'s Field House, playing the Bears yearly, on a home and away basis. The match will be streamed live by video, keep in touch with websterathletics.com for further information.

Webster University students attending the match will be admitted free with a current Webster I.D.
