Principia's Mangelsdorf Earns All-America Honors at DIII Men's Cross Country Championships

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Principia College's Wylie Mangelsdorf earned All-America honors as awarded by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with his 19th place finish at the NCAA DIII Men's Cross Country Championships hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Mangelsdorf came through the first mile in a quick pace at the lead, chasing pack behind UW-Stout national champion Tim Nelson. Mangelsdorf kept in touch with the pack and was at one point in 15th place. He posted a final time of 24:53.8 on the 8K course and improved his overall finish by 70 places from the 2011 Championships.

Spalding University's Abram Deng was the only other runner from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) to compete at the NCAA Championships. Deng placed 190th out of 280 total runners with a time of 26:17.9.

USTFCCCA All-America honors are bestowed upon the top 35 individuals at the NCAA Championships. The men's team of North Central (Ill.) claimed their NCAA all-division best 15th national cross country championship. The Cardinals (167) survived a close point battle with Calvin and Haverford (188) who tied for the runner-up spot and UW-La Crosse who finished fourth (190). No school had more than two earn All-America honors, but Haverford, UW-La Crosse, UW-Eau Claire, Bowdoin, Wheaton (Ill.), Calvin and North Central (Ill.) each had a duo gain plaudits.
