SLIAC Players of the Week - April 5

 

Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week
 

Tyler Jackson, Blackburn College

Jackson, a junior infielder, hit .600 with one home run and two runs batted in during a four game series against Iowa Wesleyan. He had multiple hits in three of the games including a four hit outing in game one. Jackson also scored three runs on the weekend and drew two walks while finishing with a .933 slugging percentage.

 
Diamond Sports Baseball Pitcher of the Week  
 

Matt Mulhearn, Webster University

Mulhearn claims weekly honors once again after a stellar performance against Eureka. He threw a no-hitter, just the third in program history, going 7 innings and setting a new program record with 17 strikeouts. 

 
Men's Basketball Player of the Week  
 

Landon Harrison, Westminster College

Harrison was a point machine in helping the Blue Jays to an 80-77 win over Webster on Saturday. The junior guard put up 22 points in just 23 minutes of action. He finished 9-of-12 shooting, knocking down three triples, and added six rebounds and four assists.

 
Women's Basketball Player of the Week  
 

Addison Beussink, Webster University

Beussink continued her torrid scoring this week, averaging 31 points in two wins for the Gorloks. A week after scoring a school record 35 points she put up 33 points in a win over Westminster, adding 12 rebounds and four assists in the game. On Saturday she scored 29 points, grabbing eight boards and recording five blocked shots.

 
Men's Tennis Player of the Week  
 

Matthew Birchmeier, Webster University

Birchmeier had a busy week, playing in eight matches for the Gorloks. The freshman finished with six wins including three victories at #3 singles for Webster. He picked up a pair of clean sweeps in singles, topping Westminster twice. 

 
Women's Tennis Player of the Week  
 

Maggie Federhofer, Webster University

Federhofer finished 5-1 on the week, winning all three of her singles matches. She blanked Westminster 6-0, 6-0 at #3 singles to open the week and followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win over University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis. In her final match she moved up to the top spot and notched a come from behind 5-7, 6-0, 10-4 win against Westminster.

 

Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

 
 

Freddy Nene, Westminster College

Nene, a sophomore, helped Westminster to a pair of wins last week. He was involved in three of his team's four goals in their 4-0 win over Princpia. Nene scored one goal and added two assists in the game. The midfielder also played well in a 2-1 win over Fontbonne to close out the week.

 
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week  
 

Sam Heckart, Westminster College

Heckart was part of a defense that held its opponents to just 10 total shots and one goal in two Blue Jays wins. The senior back also netted the game-winner in a 2-1 win over Fotbonne.

 
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week  
 

Kelsey Gordon, Westminster College

Gordon, a sophomore, tallied a hat-trick in a non-conference win over Illinois College. She buried her thre goals on just five shots, putting all five on net. 

 
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week  
 

Mary Beers, Fontbonne University

Beers recorded her fifth consecutive shutout in a 5-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan. That streak was broken in her next outing, but she still managed to pick up the win over Westminster, making one save. 

 
Softball Hitter of the Week  
 

Maranda Thomas, Spalding University

Thomas, a sophomore outfielder, hit .476 on the week driving in nine over a six game span. She drove in at least one run in five and notched two hits in five of the games. Thomas also scored seven times and finished the week with three doubles and a .619 slugging percentage.

 
Softball Pitcher of the Week  
 

Reese Waggoner, Webster University

Waggoner picked up the decision in a 6-1 win over Blackburn. The freshman worked 7 innings, allowing just one run and six hits while striking out a career-high seven batters.

 
Men's Field Athlete of the Week  
   

Turjon McLaurin, Greenville University

McLaurin, picked up a 3rd place showing in the disc this past weekend. His distance of 124'8" is a new personal best, marking the second straight week he has set a new mark. He also competed in the hammer, finishing 6th. 

 
Men's Track Athlete of the Week  
 

Mitchell Gill, Principia College

Gill took 5th place in the 400 meter race at the Bearcat Classic with a time of 49.81 seconds. That time was a personal best for Gill and he is the first SLIAC runner to break the 50-second mark in the event this season.

 
Women's Field Athlete of the Week  
 

Raven Venegas, Fontbonne University

Venegas had three top six finishes at the Bearcat Classic. Her best showing was a 4th place finish in the hammer with a mark of 127'2". She also finished 5th in the shot put (38'5.5") and 6th in the discus (109'3"). 

 

Women's Track Athelte of the Week

 
 

Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Sharp competed in four events over the weekend at the Bearcat Classic. She finished 5th in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.35 seconds and 8th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.79 seconds; marking personal bests in both events.

  • Luis Duran, Greenville University (Men's Soccer) Recorded a hat-trick in a win over Eureka.
  • Aryanna Harris, Blackburn College (Women's Basketball) Scored 27 points, adding six rebounds against Eureka.
  • Peyton Hood, Spalding University (Baseball) Worked seven innings of one hit, shutout ball in a win over Greenville.
  • Kyler Kent, Webster University (Baseball) Hit .500 over six games, driving in six, and drawing seven walks.
  • Molly Kovarik, Fontbonne University (Women's Soccer) Tallied two goals and three assists in two wins for the Griffins.
  • Brooke Laidley, Westminster College (Softball) Went 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBI in game two of a doubleheader sweep against Eureka.
  • Rylee Stafford, Fontbonne University (Women's Basketball) Netted a career-high 32 points in a win over Iowa Wesleyan.
  • Alaina Vance, Eureka College (Women's Basketball) Had 24 points and 6 assists against Webster.
