Greenville and Principia Will Meet in Men's Tennis Finals

Greenville University and Principia College will meet in the championship match of the 2019 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Tournament. Greenville, seeded #2, won their only match of the day 5-0 over #3 Webster. Greenville took #1 doubles 8-6, #2 doubles 8-5, and #3 doubles 8-4 before Justin Tilford and Zach Plocher picked singles wins.

Principia, the top seed of the tournament, moved on after a 5-0 victory of #5 Westminster College. The Panthers doubles teams won 8-1, 8-0, and 8-0 with Greg Sovie and Jules Kitchingman picking up wins in singles play.

Westminster had defeated #4 Fontbonne in their first match of the day on Friday 5-0 before falling to Webster 6-1 in the tournament's 3rd place match. The Blue Jays had singles wins from Joshua Udinyiwe, Bryce Loney, and Mike Rois against Fontbonne. 

After their loss in the opening round, Webster picked up back to back wins; defeating Fontbonne 5-0 and then Westminster 6-1 to take 3rd place in the conference. Charlie McGhee picked up wins at #1 singles (7-6, 6-1) and at #1 doubles with partner Riley Muren (8-6). Austin Nation, Tanner Haugen, and Courtland Butler also notched singles wins for the Gorloks.

The Fontbonne doubles team of Zach Stevens and Jaxon Ziemann won at the #2 spot against Westminster for the Griffins only win of the day.

Greenville and Principia will play on Saturday, April 27 at 3 p.m. in Forest Park at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis, Mo.
