Gomez Leads Strong SLIAC Showing at Fall Regionals

Daniel Gomez led a strong showing by the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at this past weekend's ITA Fall Regional. Eight players from three different SLIAC members competed at the fall central regionals in Kalamazoo, Michigan. 

Gomez, from Principia College, advanced to the round of 16 in the singles bracket. He won his opener 6-3, 6-1 over Aaron Streit before rolling to a straight-set 6-0, 6-0 win over Hart Howard in the round of 32. Gomez fell in the round of 16 to Gaurav Singh. After taking the opening set 6-1 he lost 6-2, 7-6 (4-0). Gomez's teammate Juan Segovia also competed in the singles bracket but dropped his opening round 6-0, 6-0 to James Hopper. Segovia did pick up a singles win in the consolation bracket winning 6-1, 6-1 over Brett Gurzell before being eliminated in the next round by Samrvir Sran 6-1, 4-6, 10-8. The pair then teamed up in doubles play where they advanced all the way to the quarterfinals. They won their opening-round match and round of 16 matches by identical 8-3 scores before falling 8-4 in the quarterfinals.

Webster's Riley Muren also picked up a singles win, advancing 6-0, 7-5 over Jamie Price before falling in the next round 6-1, 6-0 to Rishil Kondapaneni. Fellow Gorlok Carson Fisher dropped his opening round match 6-3, 6-4 to Pablo Gallart. Fisher lost his consolation round match 6-2, 6-4. Muren teamed up with Matthew Birchmeier in doubles play, with the pair dropping their opening match but advancing to the semifinals of the consolation round.

Greenville was represented in singles action by Clark Kent and Andres Sanchez. Kent lost his opening match 6-1, 6-0 while Sanchez fell 7-5, 6-3. Kent lost his consolation match 6-2, 6-4 while Sanchez picked up a pair of wins in the consolation round before falling in the consolation round semifinals. Kent and Luke Motsinger paired up in doubles play, dropping their doubles matches by scores of 8-4 and 8-3.
