Greenville Comes Out on Top in Men's Track

2020 SLIAC Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship Results

The Greenville University men's track and field team breezed to a 2020 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Indoor Track and Field title, totaling 228 points in the inaugural championship. The Panthers won ten events on the day and more than doubled the next closest team finisher. 

Nate Brown led the way for the Panthers by taking home two golds. He took home top honors in both the shot put, with a mark of 50'6", and the weight throw, with a distance of 57'2". With his medals Brown took home the Field Athlete of the Year award as well. 

He was joined as a gold medal winner by teammates Mahari Holt, Hunter Matthews, Dylan Webster, Di'Mond Salmond, Kaleb Carlson, Dylan Goodyear, and Collin Kessinger. Holt won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.91 seconds while Kessinger took the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.18 seconds. Carlson won the 1 mile run with a time of 4:41.98 and Goodyear led the way with a time of 8:56.10 in the 3000-meter run. 

Matthews soared to the high jump gold with a height of 6'4" while Webster won the pole vault with a mark of 13'4". Salmond wrapped up the gold medal winners for the Panthers by winning the triple jump with a distance of 43'1". Greenville also took the distance medley relay with the grouping of Carlson, Kessinger, Goodyear, and Jackson Pierce finishing in a time of 11:24.24. 

Webster University finished second in the team standings with 108 points, led by short-distance runner Jacob Ridenhour. Ridenhour racked up gold medals in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash while earning SLIAC Track Athlete of the Year honors. His teammate Joseph Souvannarath claimed gold in the 60-meter hurdles. 

The only other school to place an athlete atop the podium for a gold medal was Principia College who had Wisdom Thomas win the long jump event with a distance of 22'7". 

Iowa Wesleyan University came in 4th in the team standings with 10 points and was followed by Spalding University, Fontbonne University, and Westminster College.
