SLIAC Players of the Week - February 17

 

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
 

Dakota Bennington, Eureka College

Bennington helped the Red Devils to a pair of SLIAC wins last week; averaging 26.5 points per game while shooting 58-percent from the field. The senior guard from Peoria, Illinois put up 33 points in a win over Fontbonne and followed with 20 points on the road against Spalding. He was 18-of-31 from the field on the week, knocking down four three's and going 13-of-16 from the free-throw line. On the week Bennington averaged 26.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 blocks in the two games. 

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
 

Jaysea Morgan, Webster University

Morgan, a senior from Fisk, Missouri, claims this week's award after averaging 18.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.0 steals in two games for the Gorloks last week. Morgan finished with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists in a win over Westminster and recorded 24 points, 3 assists, and 4 steals in a victory over Blackburn. On the week Morgan shot 55-percent from the field, going 3-of-5 from three-point range, and shooting 88-percent from the free-throw line. 

Baseball Hitter of the Week  
 

Evan Trentman, Spalding University

Trentman opens up his season as the SLIAC Hitter of the Week after going 6-for-13 in four games over the weekend. He had multiple hits in three of the four games and added one run batted in. Trentman also drew three walks, striking out just once, and finished the week with a .462 batting average and a .563 on-base percentage. Hitting second in the lineup, he scored four runs and stole two bases.

Garrett Mathews, Spalding University

The freshman pitcher from Louisville, Kentucky was impressive in his collegiate debut for Spalding. Mathews worked 4 2/3 innings in his start, allowing just one run on two hits. He was effectively wild, recording 10 strikeouts despite walking five batters. He finished with 19.23 strikeouts per nine innings ratio and recorded a 1.93 earned-run average for the week. His double-digit strikeouts are the most by a Golden Eagle in their debut since 2014.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week  
 

Dylan Webster, Greenville University

Webster, a freshman from Cowden, Illinois, had three top-ten finishes at the Fighting Scots Invite; competing in the pole vault, long jump, and triple jump. Webster placed 4th in the pole vault with a mark of 13'1" and 4th in the long jump with a distance of 20'9". He also had an 8th place showing in the triple jump.

Men's Track Athlete of the Week  
 

Dylan Goodyear, Greenville University

Goodyear continues his seniors season with impressive outings, this time winning the Mile Race at the Monmouth Fighting Scots Invite. Goodyear finished the race with a time of 4:26.60, winning by four-seconds and setting a new personal record. He is currently leading the SLIAC this year with his mark in the mile.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
 

Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Sharp, a sophomore, was busy establishing numerous personal-best marks at the Fighting Scots Invite while picking up three top-four finishes. Sharp took 3rd place in the triple jump, an event she had never attempted prior, with a jump of 34'3.5". She also took 4th place in both the long jump, with a distance of 17'3", and the 60-meter hurdles, with a time of 9.54 seconds. She recorded personal bests in all three events.

 
Women's Track Athlete of the Week
 

Kori Nesbit, Greenville University

Nesbit, a senior from Granite City, Illinois, took a 6th place finish in the 3000-meter race to claim this week's weekly award. Her time of 11:40.80 is the 3rd best time in the SLIAC this season and bettered her previous personal best time by 7-seconds.

  • Mikalyn Callahan, Westminster College (Women's Basketball) Scored 22 points with 10 rebounds in a win over Fontbonne.
  • Clark Davidson, Principia College (Men's Basketball) Averaged 23.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in two games for the Panthers.
  • Jarryd Fernandes, Iowa Wesleyan University (Men's Basketball) Averaged 35.5 points in two games for the Tigers including 41 against Greenville.
  • Nigel Farrell, Blackburn College (Men's Basketball) Put up 26 points in a win over MacMurray.
  • Sophia Hathaway, Principia College (Women's Basketball) Averaged 22.5 points and 14.0 rebounds in two games for the Panthers; scoring her 1000th career point on Tuesday against Spalding.
  • Allie Massner, Iowa Wesleyan University (Women's Basketball) Scored 28 points against Greenville, reaching the 1,000 point mark for her career.
  • Chris Stamos, Principia College (Baseball) Recorded 7 strikeouts in just 4 innings of work for the Panthers.
  • Abby Stotler, MacMurray College (Women's Basketball) Averaged a double-double with 13.5 points and 12.0 rebounds in two games last week.
  • Enrique Tankins, Webster University (Men's Basketball) Averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two wins for the Gorloks.
  • Hunter Wright, Spalding University (Women's Basketball) Recorded 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 blocked shots in a win over Eureka.
