Christner, Daugherty, Guthrie, Mersinger Earn NFCA Honors

2019 NFCA All-Region Teams

Four players from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference have earned 2019 All-Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. This marks the second straight year four student-athletes from the conference have earned All-Region recognition.

Morgan Christner, a junior pitcher at Iowa Wesleyan University, was an At-Large Second Team selection from the NFCA. Christner hit .415 with 37 runs batted in but it was her performance in the circle that helped contribute to her team's first-ever postseason birth since joining the SLIAC. Christner was 17-5 with a 2.36 earned-run average and a SLIAC high 199 strikeouts this spring, earning 2019 SLIAC Pitcher of the Year honors.

Lauren Daugherty, a junior at Principia College, was named Third Team At-Large. The catcher hit .453 with 2 home runs and 31 RBI this spring, finishing with 9 doubles and a .480 on-base percentage while slugging .611 this year.

Mikala Guthrie, a freshman at Westminster College, picked up Second Team honors this spring. The infielder hit .493, 3rd best in the SLIAC, with 1 home run and 16 runs batted in. She struck out just five times while drawing seven walks and finished with a .544 on-base percentage. Guthrie also slugged .623 this season and finished with 34 hits and 10 runs scored.

Beth Mersinger, an outfielder for Greenville University, earned First Team honors. The senior hit .419 this season and ranked 2nd in the SLIAC in both home runs (11) and runs batted in (51). Mersinger compiled a .846 slugging percentage and finished with 33 runs scored and a league-leading 17 doubles this spring.
