Guthrie, Ledbetter, Shubert Earn All-America Honors

Mikala Guthrie, Sydney Shubert, and Morgan Ledbetter were named to the 2019 Fastpitch News All-America teams. The trio were the lone players from the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to earn softball All-America honors this season. 

Guthrie, a freshman at Westminster College, proved to be one of the top best power hitters in the SLIAC. She posted a slugging percentage of .623 for ninth-best in the conference while her .493 average on the year was the third-best in the league, as was her .544 on-base percentage. She played a majority of her time at first base, appearing in 25 of the Blue Jays' 32 games. Guthrie was named Honorable Mention All-America by Fastpitch News.

Ledbetter and Shubert teamed up to form one of the most potent offensive attacks in the nation and each earned First Team All-America honors. Ledbetter, a junior infielder, led the nation in home runs per game and finished the season with a .526 average, a school record 17 home runs, and 58 runs batted in. She also added 11 doubles and finished with a 1.070 slugging percentage this season.

Shubert meanwhile was the nation's leader in batting average with a .587 average while scoring44 times and swiping 13 bases. Over the course of 33 games, she had 24 multi-hit games, tallied at least three hits 14 times, racked up four hits or more four times and went 5-for 5 in a late-April win over Principia. In addition to leading the nation in batting, Shubert recorded the second-highest on-base percentage in Division III (.618) and tied for scoring the third-most runs per game (1.33). She was also named the 2019 SLIAC Softball Player of the Year.
