Final Four Teams Set for Softball

The final four teams are set for the 2023 SLIAC Softball Tournament and will be a repeat of the programs from last year's tournament. Webster University and Greenville University each won their quarterfinal round game to move on in this year's tournament, joining Spalding University and Fontbonne University in the final four.

Quarterfinals - #3 Webster University defeated #6 Eureka College, 9-1
Much like last year's first-round contest, the Gorloks handled Eureka to advance in the tournament, winning 9-1 on Tuesday afternoon. The Gorloks needed little time to get the scoring started plating a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI ground out by Paige Thomas. Eureka drew even in the 3rd on a double from Kloey Wheeler. Webster got that run back and more with six runs over the next two innings highlighted by a Reese Waggoner home run that was part of a four-run 4th inning. The Gorloks tacked on two more runs in the 6th with Kaley Adzick locking the Red Devils up, allowing just four hits over her six innings in the circle while striking out six.

Quarterfinals - #4 Greenville University defeated #5 Westminster College, 9-2
It took a come-from-behind effort but in the end, it was the Panthers walking away with a 9-2 win to move on in the tournament. After falling down 2-0, Greenville scored nine unanswered runs including a six-run 3rd inning. Emily Esquivel played a role in the Blue Jays' two runs, scoring both runs as part of a three-hit game. However, Madi Case got the Panther offense on the board with an RBI single before Mia Boyd drove in two more on a double. Two more singles plated three more runs in the inning as the Panthers' offense came to life, scoring in three of the final four frames. Alison Klaus picked up the win in the circle, going 7 innings and striking out 10.
