SLIAC Players of the Week - April 10

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for April 10, 2023

Diamond Sports Baseball Hitter of the Week
  Matt Helm, Fontbonne University

Helm led the Griffins to a series win over Westminster, hitting .538 with 2 home runs and 8 RBI in the three games. He had multiple hits in two games including a 5-for-5 performance in the series finale when he scored five times and drove in 5. He finished the week 7-for-13 at the plate with 6 runs scored and a 1.154 slugging percentage.

Diamond Sports Pitcher of the Week
  Alek Elges, Webster University

The junior recorded a win over Eureka, going a full 9 innings in the 8-1 decision. Elges limited his opponent to just four hits and only one unearned run. He struck out 9 batters while walking just one. 

Softball Hitter of the Week
 

Mia Boyd, Greenville University

Boyd hit .667 over five games last week with 3 home runs and 8 runs batted in. She also scored 5 times and finished with a 1.278 slugging percentage. The sophomore had three multi-hit games including a five-hit outing in game one of a doubleheader against Webster. She drove in at least one run in all five games and added one stolen base. 

Softball Pitcher of the Week
  Hailey Kutz, Fontbonne University

Kutz notched a pair of wins in the circle last week, going 2-0 with a 0.88 earned-run average. She struck out 15 over 16 innings and held opponents to just seven hits on the week. Kutz threw 9 innings in a win over WashU and followed with 12 strikeouts in a 7-inning win over Spalding.  

Men's Golf    
  James Johnson, Lake Forest College

In a field of 212 golfers, Johnson tied for 28th place at the Illinois Wesleyan Invite. He shot rounds of 78 and 73, moving up 64 spots in the final round thanks to four birdies. The Foresters finished tied for 6th in the 37-team event. 

Women's Golf    
  Olivia Quigley, Illinois College

Quigley took home medalist honors at the Country Club Classic with a 74. She bested the field of 20 golfers by eight strokes. Her round of 74 is a season-low and marks her second win of the season. 

Men's Outdoor Field    
  Dylan Webster, Greenville University

Webster had three top-two finishes at the True Blue Invite over the weekend. He took 1st in the high jump with a mark of 6'5.5". He also had 2nd place showings in the pole vault and long jump. With his 26 points, he helped the Panthers to a 2nd-place team finish. 

Men's Outdoor Track    
  Elijah Perez, Webster University

Perez had a pair of top-three finishes at the True Blue Invite and competed in a third event. He finished 1st in the 200 meters with a time of 22.40 seconds. He was also a part of the 3rd place 4x100 relay team and finished 7th in the javelin. 

Women's Outdoor Field    
  Laila Graham, Greenville University

Graham recorded three 2nd place finishes at the True Blue Invite; long jump, triple jump, and high jump. She had a mark of 17'4.25" in the long jump and currently sits in second place among SLIAC competitors this spring in both the triple jump and high jump.

Women's Outdoor Track    
  Moenasia Sidique, Westminster College

Sidique took 1st place in the 400-meter dash at the Bearcat Classic. The sophomore finished in a time of 1:01, the fastest time by a SLIAC runner this spring. 

Other Notables

  • Gianni Estrada, Greenville University (Track and Field) Took 1st in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:58, a lifetime best. 
  • Jaelin Holdaway, Webster University (Softball) Finished with four hits and two RBI in a doubleheader against Greenville. 
  • Vanessa Jones, Webster University (Track and Field) Set a school record in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.03 seconds. 
  • Nathaniel Martinez, Webster University (Baseball) Sparked the Gorloks offense with 11 runs batted in over six games, also scoring nine times. 
  • Hannah Myers, Westminster College (Track and Field) Finished in 1st place in the long jump at the Bearcat Classic with a mark of 15'11.25". 
  • Snyder Pennington, Greenville University (Baseball) Recorded four hits with two home runs and six RBI in a win over Blackburn.
  • Macey Whisker, Eureka College (Softball) Had a hit in all six games last week, batting .533.
