Flesner Sets Highlander Record

Flesner Sets Highlander Record

There's a new name atop the MacMurray College volleyball record books.

In a 3-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan, sophomore Kamryn Flesner broke the single-season kills record. With a 20-kill performance, Flesner now has 442 on the season, breaking the previous record of 438, set by teammate Olivia Wall in 2017.

The Highlanders keep their playoff hopes alive with the win, improving to 14-14 overall, 9-5 in conference play.

Both teams locked at 20 in set one, three straight Highlander points pushed the hosts in front. The teams traded the final four points, but the lead was enough for MacMurray, taking the opening set, 25-22.

MacMurray used a 7-1 run in the middle set to distance themselves from the Tigers. Despite IWU cutting the lead to three points, Wall sealed the victory for MacMurray with a kill, 25-21.

An IWU attack error and kills from Flesner and Erin Sweet helped MacMurray to an 18-12 advantage in the final set. Junior Hannah Harbaugh closed out the match with a kill, giving the Highlanders a 25-17 win.

In addition to the 20 kills, Flesner attacked at a stout .450 clip and had four blocks. Gretchen Durbala ran the Highlander offense, finishing with 35 assists.

Carissa Smith (18 digs) and Alexis Moore (11 digs) led the back row. Logyn Little contributed nine digs in the win.

Both Smith and Harbaugh each had three service aces.

MacMurray closes out a big week on Saturday afternoon when they host Eureka for Senior Day. Prior to the match, MacMurray will honor its five seniors – Wall, Moore, Janelle BensonCaitlyn Hoene and Brooke Hadley. Game time is scheduled for 12 p.m.
