Blackburn Extends Winning Streak

The Blackburn College men's soccer team did not let the rain damper their mood as they extended its winning streak to four games with a 3-0 win over Westminster College in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Game of the Week. With the win Blackburn improves to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play, already totaling its most conference wins in a season since 2004.

Anthony Coppotelli started the scoring with a goal at the 17-minute mark after receiving a crossing pass from Hayden Reese. Head Coach Rob Steinkuehler went to his bench at the 30-minute mark and it immediately paid dividends. Just 41-seconds after stepping onto the field, Shane Greathouse knocked a header in off a pass from Zibo Siamsipa.

The Beavers took that 2-0 lead into halftime and tightened up the defense in the second half. After a first half that saw a combined 25 shots the second 45 had just 12 shots with Westminster placing just two of those on the net.  Goalkeeper Hunter Vetter stopped two shots after coming in for an injured Dawson Klunk.

Ziamsipa added another goal for Blackburn in the game's final minute, his 4th of the season. Westminster outshot Blackburn 20-17 in the game but managed just seven shots on goal.
