Several Records Fall In Webster Outdoor Opener

The Webster University men's and women's track and field teams participated in the competitive Rhodes Track and Field Invitational on March 17-18 in Memphis, TN.  Seeing outdoor action for the first time in 2017, the Gorloks set numerous school and personal records, highlighted by Caleb Clemons' 100m dash, Meghan Illig's 400/100m hurdles, and Jamie York's hammer throw.

For the men, in the 100m dash Clemons (SO, Florissant, MO/McCluer North) set the school record with a time of 10,76, beating Haile Wilson's time of 10.79 set in 2015.  He finished 8/39 in the event, where the field included NCAA I, II, and NAIA athletic scholarship runner.  Clemons' time is currently first nationally, this season, in the NCAA III for the 100m dash.  Clemons also finished 14/59 in the 200m dash with a time of 22.46.

Jordan Kaden (SO, Rolla, MO/Rolla) was 12/59 in the 400m dash with a time of 51.07.  Damon Fowler (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) was 8/20 in the 110 hurdles at 16.24.  Fowler was also 7/18 in the 400m hurdles with a time of 58.06

In the 5000m run, Gryphon Ketterling (FR, St. Louis, MO/Mehlville) ran 16:17.29 and finished 26/69 runners.  Brandon Brown (JR, Hazelwood, MO/Hazelwood West) at 16:41.77, Jordan Benton (JR, Wentzville, MO/Ft. Zumwalt North) at 17:04.34, and Dontrell Carpenter (JR, Hazelwood, MO/Hazelwood West) at 17:06.33 were finishers as well.

In his first collegiate hammer throw, York (FR, Troy, MO/Buchanan) smashed the old mark as he set a Webster record at 44.27m (145'-03"), finishing 5/21. In the discus, York also set a Webster school record at 35.58m, finishing 21/39.
                
In the pole vault, NaMhar Bethea (FR, Overland Park, KS/Shawnee Mission East) was 4/17 at 4.0m (13'1.5"), setting the school record.  Ryan Robbins (JR, Clarksville, MO/Clopton) was 11/38 in the javelin throw at 46.02m (151'-00").  Kyle Goessler (FR, Imperial, MO/Seckman) finished the long jump at 5.98m, finishing 12/35.

For the women, Meghan Illig (JR, St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh) set the Webster record in the 400m hurdles at 1:04.45 and finished 3/29.  Illig's time in the 400 is currently third nationally in the NCAA III.  She also set the school record in the 100m hurdles at 15.47, finishing 3/23.

Meredith Sowers (FR, Rolla, MO/Rolla) set a Webster record in the pole vault at 2.13m and finished 19th.  Sowers was also 11/34 in the 800m run with a time of 2:28.05.

In the long jump,  Jakara Davidson-Brooks (FR, Sanford, FL/Seminole) was 5/24 at 5.07m and in the 100m dash, was 21/41 at 12.96.  In the 200m, Donalda Desir (JR, Naples, FL/Lely) ran in 26.93, finishing 24/57.

Holly Goergen (JR, Phoenix, AZ/Shadow Mountain) was sixth in the 10000m run at 41:56.23 24.  In the one mile run, Valerie Martin (SR, St. Louis, MO/Webster Groves) was 16/44 at 5:32.10.

In the javelin, coming off shoulder surgery, Alyssa Feldewert, (JR, Wentzville, MO/Ft. Zumwalt North) made a strong return with a toss of 31.19m (102'-04"), finishing 8/36. She also threw the discus at 29.42m, finishing 16/39.  Bailey Badger (SO, Richland, MO/Richland) was at 35.23m (115'-07") in the hammer throw and finished 12/25.
