Illig Earns Google Cloud Academic All-District Honors

Webster University senior Meghan Illig (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh) on Tuesday afternoon was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Team for Women's Track/Cross Country as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Academic All-District Team presented by Google Cloud recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances both athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated by their respective school's SID, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and a starter or key contributor with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

Illig claims her first career Academic All-District honor this season after being one of the top female track and cross country performers not only at Webster but also in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. During the recently completed outdoor track season, Illig was named the SLIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Year after taking home SLIAC titles in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 4-x-400-meter relay and earning All-SLIAC honors during the track season in the 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 4-x-400 meter relay. Illig just missed qualifying in the 400-meter hurdles for this year's 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships as she fell just short of qualifying as her school record time of 1:02.52 at Missouri S&T's Dewey Allgood Invitational was the 28th-best time in Division III in 2018. Along with her success in track, Illig was also a First-Team All-SLIAC selection in cross country in 2017 and is a three-time All-SLIAC selection and earned two SLIAC Runner of the Week accolades during this past fall's cross country campaign. She helped lead the Gorloks to SLIAC titles in both women's cross country during the fall and women's outdoor track and field in the spring.

In the classroom, Illig carries a 3.93 cumulative grade point average in advertising and marketing. In April, was named as one of Webster's three Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award winners and a three-time member of the SLIAC All-Academic Team in cross country and is a two-time member of the SLIAC All-Academic Team in track and field. She will earn her third straight SLIAC All-Academic Team honor in track and field this coming June.

With her first team Academic All-District selection, Illig will now be placed on the national ballot for the Google Cloud Academic All-America Team which will be announced on Tuesday, June 19.

Illig is the second Webster student-athlete from the 2017-18 school year to have been named a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection as Brianna Pagan earned first-team Academic All-District honors in women's soccer during the fall.

Voting for the Academic All-District team is conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Webster's representatives are District 5 selections from Division III institutions comprised from the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
