SLIAC Players of the Week - October 18

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for October 18, 2021.

Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
   

Kaleb Carlson, Greenville University

Carlson finished 2nd at the Greenville Classic, completing an 8K course in a time of 26:38. The senior was in 4th with a mile to go before recording a 5:17 final mile and pushing into the second slot, giving the Panthers the top two finishers and helping them to a team win at the event. 

     
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
 

Danielle Schultz, Webster University

Schultz ran to 2nd place showing at the Greenville Classic, finishing the 5K course in a time of 19:40. That mark is the 6th best all-time in program history as she was the first SLIAC runner to cross the finish line in a field of 68 runners. 

     
Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
   

Mark Moore, Webster University

Moore tallied 3 goals in a pair of conference wins for the Gorloks last week. The sophomore scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory over rival Fontbonne and followed with two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-0 win against Spalding. On the week he recorded the 3 goals on just 10 shots. 

     
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
   

Matt Coffey, Webster University

Coffey was unscored against in two games last week, recording a pair of shutouts. He made 5 saves in a 1-0 win over Fontbonne and blanked Spalding in a 3-0 win, recording 4 saves in the contest. Coffey currently leads the conference in save percentage, goals against, and goals against average.

     
Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week
   

Molly Kovarik, Fontbonne University

Kovarik recorded 3 goals in two games for the Griffins last week, giving her 48 in her career and tying her for first place in program history. She scored her team's only goal in a 1-1 tie against Webster before helping the Griffins to a 4-0 win over Westminster with a pair of goals. 

     
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
   

Taryn Banfield, Webster University

With this week's weekly award Banfield picks up her third award of the fall. The goalkeeper carried a 0.45 goals-against average in two games last week, allowing just one goal in 200 minutes of action. She recorded 16 saves, including a season-high 13 in a tie against Fontbonne. Banfield finished the week with a .941 save percentage. 

     
Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week
   

Kendall Mattison, Spalding University

Mattison helped the Golden Eagles to a pair of conference wins last week including the team's first win over Webster since 2016. The sophomore totaled 22 kills in the two matches, hitting .362 while adding 13 digs and four total blocks. She had a high of 16 kills in the four-set win over Webster. 

     
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
   

Chasity Hill, Greenville University

The junior defensive specialist wins her third weekly award this season after totaling 58 digs in four Panther wins last week. She had a high of 27 digs in a sweep of Monmouth and recorded two double-digit dig matches. She averaged 4.83 digs per set on the week and recorded her 1,000th career dig as well.

  • Lauren Borik, Webster University (Volleyball) Had 18 kills and 17 digs against Fontbonne.
  • Desiree Brooks, Fontbonne University (Cross Country) Ran a 5k personal best with a time of 22:08.
  • Hannah Gallagher, Fontbonne University (Volleyball) Recorded a double-double with 15 kills and 15 digs in a win over Webster.
  • Ahmadou Gueye, Spalding University (Soccer) Recorded a hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Eureka.
  • Jared McPeek, Greenville University (Soccer) Goals in both of his games last week, finishing with 3 goals and 1 assist in the two outings.
  • Joe Noah, Fontbonne University (Soccer) Had 2 goals and 1 assist in a 5-1 win over Westminster.
  • Sarah Richards, Spalding University (Volleyball) Averaged 5.29 digs per set in two wins last week. 
  • Zibo Siamsipa, Blackburn College (Soccer) Tallied a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over Principia.
