SLIAC Track and Field Championship Preview

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference returns to Greenville, Illinois this weekend for the 2023 Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Greenville track and field programs swept both titles last year and are the prohibitive favorites once again. 

The championship begins on Friday with the 10,000-meter run at 7 p.m. and several field events beginning at 4 p.m. The remainder of the championship will start at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday before concluding with the relay events around 3:30 p.m.

Men's Team 
2022 Finish: n/a
Who to Watch

  • Hayden Fox is the highest-ranked Beaver in singles events among SLIAC competitors, currently ranking 7th in the 400-meter hurdles this spring. 
  • The Blackburn 4x400 relay team has the 5th best time in the conference this spring. 
 

Women's Team 
2022 Finish: n/a
Who to Watch

  • Emily Eitzenhefer will be looking to pick up points for Blackburn in both the high jump and long jump, where she ranks in the top ten in the SLIAC.
  • Molly Koskey is also ranked in a pair of middle-distance events; the 800-meters and 1500-meters.
         
Eureka College RED DEVILS
   

Men's Team 
2022 Finish: NTS
Who to Watch

  • Jose Amador will be looking to become the first men's Red Devil to earn All-Conference honors, competing in the Steeplechase.
  • Bailey Webster and Anthony Delira will both be running in the 5000-meters, where they are top ten in the SLIAC.

 

   

Women's Team 
2022 Finish: 7th
Who to Watch

  • Rachel Fisher has her eyes set on a medal in the 400-meters and 800-meters, where she ranks 3rd in the SLIAC.
  • Karissa Heffernan is the favorite in the 1500-meter run. 
  • Sarah Kimbro will be looking for a medal in the Steeplechase.
         
Fontbonne University GRIFFINS
 

 

Men's Team 
2022 Finish: 6th
Who to Watch

  • KeYonn Hall-Baker has a shot at a medal in the high jump, where he ranks 3rd. 
  • The Griffins throwers are looking to have strong outings with Tyree Simms, Marc Daniels-Quan, and Mark Fisher all ranking in the top six in several events.
  • Andre Webb sits 3rd in the triple jump this spring.
 

Women's Team 
2022 Finish: 4th
Who to Watch

  • Madelyn Huffstetter will be competing for a medal in the 100-meter dash, where her time of 12.92 seconds is 4th best this spring.
  • Huffstetter and Alexa Lofgren will also compete in the 200-meter dash and Lofgren will run the 400-meter.
         
Greenville University PANTHERS
   

Men's Team 
2022 Finish: 1st
Who to Watch

  • CJ Anderson attempts to defend his title in the 100-meter dash but will be pushed by teammates Carson Rantanen and Chase LaTouche. 
  • A favorite in five events, Dylan Webster has a chance to become the conference's all-time leader in medals. 
  • Throwers Matt Binion, Turjon McLaurin, and Blake Thebeau will be trying to better each other's throws all meet long. 
  • Colton Rich has a chance to set the championship record in the javelin, where is the top thrower this spring by over 13 feet. 
 

Women's Team 
2022 Finish: 1st
Who to Watch

  • Already the SLIAC's all-time medal winner, Cayden Sharp will look to wrap up her historic career and is the SLIAC top qualifier in five events. 
  • Olivia Mansfield will be looking for her first gold and is the favorite in the 800 meters.
  • It should be a good battle among Panthers in the high jump where Sharp, Anna Beth Vancil, and Laila Graham are all in the top three this spring.
  • Several Panthers will battle for medals in the throwing events: Tawny Rodriguez, Ashley Smith, Talahiva Talanoa, Ella Ray, and Ava Vollmer. 
   
Principia College PANTHERS  
 

Men's Team 
2022 Finish: 3rd 
Who to Watch

  • Nana Koranteng will be looking for medals in the 400-meters and 800-meters.
  • Rex Heath is the favorite in the Steeplechase and 3rd in 5000 meters. 
  • Howard James is the SLIAC leader in the long jump.
  • Tobin Blair will attempt to defend his title in the javelin and ranks 7th in the discus. 
 

Women's Team 
2022 Finish: 3rd
Who to Watch

  • Mirsa Boyer will compete in a pair of events, the 100-meters and 200-meters.
  • Laura Mayo and Sarah Erickson will look to garner points in the 5000-meters.
  • May and Geena Richards both have medal hopes in the Steeplechase and are in the top three this spring.
   
Spalding University GOLDEN EAGLES
   

Men's Team 
2022 Finish: 5th
Who to Watch

  • Peter McGowan is looking for a medal in the 5000-meters, where he ranks 4th and Steeplechase, where he ranks 3rd. 
  • Erick Jenkins will aim to pick up points in a pair of jumping events; high jump and long jump. 
   

Women's Team 
2022 Finish: 6th
Who to Watch

  • Dawn Wilson sits 5th in the spring this season in the 100-meter hurdles. 
  • Shyanne Hagan is coming off her best performance in the long jump, where she ranks 7th. 
Webster University GORLOKS
 

Men's Team 
2022 Finish: 2nd
Who to Watch

  • Elijah Perez will be competing in several events including both dash races and could take home multiple medals.
  • Cameron Sakuma is the leader this spring in both the 5000-meters and 10,000-meters. 
  • Armond Williams will look to defend his title in the 110-hurdles. 
  • Kaelin Triggs is 3rd in both the 800-meters and 1500-meters.

 

 

Women's Team 
2022 Finish: 2nd
Who to Watch

  • Vanessa Jones should compete for a medal in both hurdles distances. 
  • Isabelle Llewellyn ranks 4th in the conference in both the discus, javelin, and hammer throw. 
  • Micah Barnes will be looking for a medal in the 400-meters where she ranks 4th. 
   
Westminster College BLUE JAYS  
 

Men's Team 
2022 Finish: 4th
Who to Watch

  • Elijah Teal will look to get some points for the Blue Jays in the sprint events. 
  • Travis Beig will look for a podium spot in the 110-hurdles. 
  • Sam Hoffman has a chance to medal in the pole vault, where he ranks 4th this spring.

 

 

Women's Team 
2022 Finish: 5th
Who to Watch

  • Moenaisa Sidique won gold in the 400 last year and will also run in the 200-meters.
  • Hannah Myers will be the anchor for field events for the Blue Jays, competing in the high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
