Fontbonne Appoints Hoener as Women's Soccer Coach

ST. LOUIS - The Fontbonne University athletic department has appointed Brian Hoener as its new head women's soccer coach following the resignation of former coach Mike Lagow.

"Though we hate to lose Coach Lagow, we understand and respect that his decision was a family decision and thank him for all his time and efforts in leading Fontbonne women's soccer over the past year," Fontbonne University Athletic Director Maria Eftink said.

Hoener currently serves as the men's head soccer coach at Fontbonne. He takes over duties as the women's head coach immediately.

"We are lucky to have someone like Coach Hoener on staff. He not only brings a wealth of soccer knowledge to both positions but as an alumnus, he understands the Fontbonne experience and Fontbonne soccer," Eftink said. "We are excited for the future of Fontbonne soccer under Coach Hoener's leadership and know that both our men's and women's teams are in talented and capable hands."

Hoener currently serves as the head men's soccer coach at Fontbonne University and hopes to bring his success in that program to the women's team. In his 11 years as the men's coach at Fontbonne, Hoener has compiled a 111-74-28 record with a 71-30-17 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) record. He has led the Griffins to three SLIAC regular season championships (2003, 2004 and 2008) and two SLIAC Tournament championships (2004 and 2006). Hoener has led the Griffins to three NCAA Tournament appearances (2003, 2004 and 2006). In 2003, 2004 and 2008, he was named the SLIAC Coach of the Year.

"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity," Hoener said. "I think we have a great group of women in this program and I'm excited to get to work."

The Fontbonne women's soccer program finished 10-7-1 last season with a 6-2 SLIAC record. The Griffins lost in the SLIAC Tournament semifinal to end their season.

Hoener also serves as the University's Sports Information Director. He is a former Fontbonne soccer player and graduated from the University with a degree in communications. He is married with two daughters.
