Greenville Wins Third SLIAC Men's Track & Field Invitational

ST. LOUIS – Greenville College captured its third St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Men's Track and Field Invitational last Saturday. The Invitational, held in conjunction with the Illinois College True Blue Open, was scored independently of the main meet.

Behind wins in 10 events, the Panther men amassed 226 points besting runner-up Westminster College (143 points) which took home four titles. Spalding University won two events as part of its third-place finish with 60 points. Principia College also won two events and finished sixth with 36 points, while Webster University won the other event and finished fourth with 56 points. Eureka College (38 points) and Fontbonne University (1 point) also competed.

Greenville boasted two dual winners in Bruce Gray and Treyvon Manning. Gray won the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.80 seconds and then topped the competition in the 200 meter dash with a final time of 21.67. Manning won the 400 meter hurdles in 55.63 seconds and the 400 meter dash in 50.49 seconds. Other individual title winners for the Panthers included Alex Staton (pole vault), Josh Kuusisto (hammer throw), Ben Barber (3000m steeplechase), Josh Dees (1500m run) and the men's 4x400 and 4x100 relays.

Westminster's CJ Vaughan was a dual winner with titles in the long jump (5.98m) and triple jump (13.12m). Teammates Matt Borst and Jesse Edwards also claimed individual titles in the 5000 meter run (15:48.36) and 10,000 meter run (33:36.13) respectively.

Spalding's Kyle Jenkins won both the shot put (13.88m) and discus throw (47.43m). Winning the other field events were Principia's Geoffrey Hibbs (javelin) and Webster's Aaron Oberneufemann (high jump). Principia's Clayton Harper also claimed the title in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.24 seconds, while Adam Rolph won the 800 meter run with a time of 1:58.24.

The meet was scored on a 10-8-6-4-2-1 basis, no school could score more than three competitors in any event and events were scored regardless of the number of SLIAC participants.

This marked the fourth year that the SLIAC has sponsored a Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Invitational.
