SLIAC Senior Send-Off: Softball
The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference would like to send our best wishes to its 2019-20 senior softball players. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, all spring seasons were canceled and while the NCAA has announced that seniors will not lose a year of eligibility due to the cancelation, not all will return. With that in mind, we salute the 2019-20 seniors.
This year's class is headlined by a pair of All-Americans and All-Region performers. Last season Eureka College's dream season was carried by a pair of the best hitters in Division III; Morgan Ledbetter and Sydney Shubert. Ledbetter hit 17 home runs with 58 runs batted in last spring, leading the nation in both home runs and RBI per game, while Shubert hit a Division III best .587 on the season and was named the SLIAC Player of the Year. Their teammate pitcher Erin Smith was also a part of the Red Devil core that won the programs' first-ever SLIAC Championship in 2019 and ranks among the program's leaders in career wins and career earned-run average.
Westminster College's Brooke Laidley, a 2018 All-Conference member, and Katie Price were named All-Region in 2018 with Price also picking up SLIAC Pitcher of the Year honors that same season. Fellow Blue Jays Madison Ingram and Mackenzie Myers were also All-Conference selections during their career.
Greenville seniors include Megan Barrett, Kendall Farr, Deidra Holzhauer, and Kayla Zimmerman. Barrett and Farr were both Second Team All-Conference selections last spring while Holzhauer earned Third Team honors. Zimmerman meanwhile was a First Team selection after hitting .438 and finishing second in the SLIAC with 20 stolen bases.
A fixture since her arrival on the Webster University campus Abby Burroughs was a three-time Second Team All-Conference selection and was named to the 2019 All-Sportsmanship team. Burroughs was also a two-time All-America Scholar-Athlete and ranks in the top ten of the Gorlok program history in home runs and runs scored.
Brianna Eatmon and Addie Morris were part of key players on a roster that helped Spalding University get back into the postseason last spring. Eatmon hit .360 last spring and was a two-time choice as on the All-Sportsmanship team. Morris meanwhile was selected Third Team All-Conference in each of the last two seasons, hitting .364 in her Golden Eagle career.
Iowa Wesleyan University got just one full season of work from their senior class of Morgan Christner and Kayla Ford but it was quite a season to remember. Christner was named the SLIAC Pitcher of the Year after notching 17 wins with a 2.36 earned-run average and leading the league with 199 strikeouts. Ford meanwhile joined Christner as an All-Conference First Team member after hitting .413 and scoring 35 runs last spring.
Principia College's Hannah Hathway was a two-time First Team All-Conference and All-Sportsmanship selection during her career. She hit over .400 in each of the last two seasons while totaling seven home runs during her career.
Blackburn College's Baylee Hughes earned back-to-back All-Conference honors in 2018 and 2019 while MacMurray Colleges Brooke Allen was the team's 2019 All-Sportsmanship recipient.
We wish the best of luck to every student-athlete as they move forward and salute them for their efforts in competition and the classroom over the years!
