Sheets Tabbed to Lead Greenville Softball
The Greenville University Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Angela Sheets of Peoria, Ill., as its new head softball coach. Sheets assumes the position vacated by Buddy Foster who accepted a position at Mississippi University for Women as its head softball coach following four years at Greenville.
Sheets returns to Greenville after graduating from the institution in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She spent three years as a pitcher for the Panthers and was coached by Brian Reinhard for two years and Tenequa Martin for one year. She helped the 2010 squad to 18 wins in her first year on campus and was on teams that qualified for three straight SLIAC tournaments. She takes the reins of a program that has gone 150-105 since 2014 with three appearances in the NCAA Division III national tournament.
"We are thrilled to have Angela joining our athletic staff to lead our softball program," said athletic director Tom Ackerman. "As a GU alum, she is passionate about the mission of our institution and athletic department, and our student-athletes will be fortunate to have her as a coach and mentor. She has shown great ability to build and improve a high school program at Peoria Christian, and we have no doubt she will continue that trend at Greenville."
Over the last eight seasons, Sheets has been the head softball coach at Peoria Christian School, and four years ago, she added oversight of the junior high to her areas of responsibility. Her 2016 PCS Charger team advanced to the sectional as IHSA regional champions, the only regional championship in school history.
Since 2017, she has served as the head coach of the Christian Center travel team and has given private softball instruction since 2011.
In addition to her professional accomplishments in softball, she served as a therapist for the Children's Home of Illinois for one year after previously serving parents and children as a parent educator, child care specialist, and volunteer for organizations focused on those populations.
"I truly enjoyed my time in the Greenville softball program, and I learned so much about myself as a person, athlete, and woman of God," said Sheets. "I am extremely excited to become the new head softball coach, and I look forward to intentionally getting to know each softball student-athlete. My motto is, 'If you believe you can, you will,' and I can't wait to get started."
Sheets earned a master's degree from Bradley University in clinical mental health counseling and is a qualified mental health professional (QMHP). She has also received certification as a registered behavior technician in applied behavioral analysis (ABA) therapy. She is advancing toward credentials as a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC).
Greenville University looks forward to her return to campus this summer and leadership of the softball program.
