Greenville Edges Westminster In Game of the Week

BOX SCORE

In a battle to move to 2-0 in conference play, Greenville University picked up a 2-1 victory on the road over Westminster College in the SLIAC Game of the Week. Both teams won their conference opener last week and were looking to maintain an early lead in the standings with the win.

Greenville tallied the first goal of the game, from freshman Jade Taylor, just 14-minutes into action. The goal was Taylor's 11th of the season, tied for tops in the league. The Panthers added to their lead in the 64th minute when Dani Pearce netted a goal off a pass from Kate Arthur.

Westminster quickly got back into the game when Cara Wilfong scored just five minutes later but was unable to find the equalizer despite outshooting Greenville 4-1 in the final 20-minutes. Paige Townsend, the leading scorer in the SLIAC, led the charge with three of those shots but was stymied each time by Greenville's Marjory Coates.

Westminster finished the game with a 15-9 edge in shots and a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.

Marjory Coates made seven saves in net for Greenville to pick up the win while Sarah Craddick made one save in the loss for Westminster.

Greenville extends their current conference-best winning streak to six games and improves to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the SLIAC. Their next game is against Principia on Saturday. Westminster falls to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play and will return to the field on Saturday against MacMurray.
