Webster Claims SLIAC Women's Track Title

2020 SLIAC Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship Results

Webster University takes home the 2020 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship despite a eye-popping performance from Greenville University's Cayden Sharp. The Gorloks took the team title with 212 points, besting Greenville's point total of 149. 

Meredith Sowers, the conference's all-time medals leader for outdoor track, made her mark for the Gorloks in the league's first-ever indoor championship by taking home two medals. Sowers won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:19.22 and the pole vault with a mark of 9'4". 

Five other Gorloks took home gold medals. Kaleigh Finney won the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.41 while Danielle Schultz won the 1 mile run with a time of 5:35.46. Kaitlin Higgins crossed first in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:44.88 with Daisha Reece winning the long jump with a mark of 18'3" and Miranda Green winning the shot put with a distance of 41'6". The Gorloks also took home gold medals in the 4x400 meter run (Finney, Sowers, Jakara Davidson-Brooks, and Jordan Lande).

Sharp's name was called often on Saturday as she took home five gold medals. Sharp won the high jump, triple jump, 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter dash, and 200-meter dash. Her teammate Deb Cunningham notched a victory in the weight throw while the Panthers also picked up top honors in the distance medley relay.

Fontbonne University and Principia College each finished with 25 points, tying for 3rd place while Iowa Wesleyan University totaled 23 points and Spalding University finished with 10 points.

Sharp was named the Track Athlete of the Year while Iowa Wesleyan's Keona Love was named the Track Newcomer of the Year. Daisha Reece, of Webster University, took home Field Athlete of the Year honors and Tawny Rodriguez of Greenville University was named the Track Newcomer of the Year.
