Host Schools Advance in Tournament

Both host schools won their quarterfinals matchup to advance to the semifinals of the 2023 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament. 

Quarterfinal - #3 Westminster College defeated #6 Eureka College

Westminster came out firing away, putting up a game-high 23 points in the first quarter of action and it would be the Blue Jay defense that sparked the attack. The Blue Jays forced eight turnovers in the first ten minutes of action, finishing the game with 20 forced turnovers and scoring 21 points off turnovers. The Blue Jays' lead grew as large as 17 points and they closed out the game by holding Eureka to just 10 points in the fourth quarter. Annette Ramirez led Westminster with 17 points, Shelby Kurtz added 14 points, and Natalie Archambault finished with 11. Abby Stotler had a game-high 18 points for Eureka.

Quarterfinal - #4 Fontbonne University defeated #5 Principia College

Playing in the postseason for the first time in 16 years, Principia took an early 18-9 lead. But the final seconds of the first quarter showed what the Griffin offense was capable of when Ja'mise Bailey knocked down a three at the buzzer to make the score 18-12. Prior to her shot, the Griffins were 1-of-8 from three-point range. The Griffins would hit 10 of their next 20 three-point attempts, allowing them to bring home the win. Bailey led all Griffins with 21 points while Madison Nelson chipped in with 18 and Rylee Pickett finished with 15. A pair of Panthers scored 21 points, Alana Hinson and Taylor Brown, with Hinson adding 14 rebounds.

What's Next
The semifinals of the 2023 SLIAC Women's Basketball tournament will be played on Thursday, February 23 on the campus of top overall seed Webster University. The first game of the evening will feature #2 Greenville University against #3 Westminster College at 5:30 p.m. with #1 Webster University taking on #4 Fontbonne University at 7:30 p.m.
