SLIAC Schools to Join in Women's Sports Amplification

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is proud to join in a national contest to amplify and promote student attendance at women's home games during the second semester.

"In continued celebration of the 50 years since Title IX, we must continue to promote, inspire and hype up attendance and support of women in sports," said Fontbonne University Athletic Director Danielle Doerfler. "Female sports continue to struggle with exposure from the media, coverage of their games, and attendance in the stands.  Kudos to the SLIAC for jumping on this opportunity to join in a competition to help us create exposure for women's sports while recognizing these struggles!"

From January through March of 2023 students at SLIAC member schools will scan a unique QR code at each women's sporting event on campus to "check in" their attendance. Each check-in will count towards the overall total per school, which will be calculated as a percentage of the total undergraduate student body.

"According to the Global survey conducted by Christina Gough in 2021, there is an overwhelming disparity in women's sports coverage in comparison to men's sports," said SLIAC SAAC President Autumn Wilson. "By pledging to amplify and promote student attendance at women's games we are creating a fun and equitable experience for ALL athletes. Be the hype man you want to experience at your own games."

The contest is in step with the national contest being held by the NCAA in partnership with Coca-Cola. The three universities, across all levels of the NCAA, with the highest check-in percentages, will be showcased with custom content, created by and shared on Togethxr social channels, courtesy of Coca-Cola with results being shared during the Women's Final Four. Students will also be incentivized with digital prizes.

In addition to prizes during the contest, schools will be able to analyze the metrics to see how attendance, awareness, or perception of women's sporting events may have changed.

Stay tuned for more information and be sure to join the contest beginning in January 2023!
