SLIAC Players of the Week - February 13

The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Players of the Week for February 13, 2023

     
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
 

Peewee Brown, Eureka College

A sophomore guard, Brown helped the Red Devils to a pair of wins last week by averaging 18.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. He tallied 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists in a win over Webster and followed with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 steals against Fontbonne. He totaled five steals and four assists in the two games, going 14-of-17 from the free-throw line.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
  Julie Baudendistel, Webster University

The winner for a second straight week, Baudendistel averaged 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in two Gorlok wins. She put up 24 points, on 9-of-14 shooting, against Eureka. She followed with 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 steals against Principia. On the week she shot 54 percent from the field and totaled three blocks and two steals.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
  Wesley Kile, Greenville University

Kile took 1st place in the pole vault at the NCCAA Championships over the weekend. His mark of 15'5" was a school record, breaking his own record by five inches. 

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
  Gianni Estrada, Greenville University

Estrada picked up a 2nd place finish in the 3000 meters at the NCCAA Championships. His time of 8:39 is a SLIAC best this season by 41 seconds. The sophomore was also part of the Panthers' Distance Medley Relay team that took 1st place with a time of 10:28.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
  Cayden Sharp, Greenville University

Sharp is once again the weekly award winner, this time after being named the Field Athlete of the Meet at the NCCAA Championships. The senior set a school record in the pentathlon and finished with lifetime bests in the high jump, shot put, and 800 meters while also winning the 60 hurdles.  

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
  Vanessa Jones, Webster University

Jones, a graduate student, placed 8th in the 60-meter hurdles at the Ichabod Invite last weekend. She finished with a time of 9.34 seconds and set the school record in the prelims with a time of 9.33 seconds, which is the second-fastest time in the SLIAC this season. 

Other Notables

  • Jaquan Adams, Principia College (Men's Basketball) Averaged 20.0 points over two games, shooting 60 percent from the field and helping the Panthers record a program record 17th win of the season. 
  • Taylor Brown, Principia College (Women's Basketball) Finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists in a win over Spalding.
  • Jacie Chesser, Spalding University (Women's Basketball) Had 20 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Westminster.
  • Karissa Heffernan, Eureka College (Track and Field) The sophomore placed 3rd in the 3000 meters and 4th in the Mile at the Titan Open last weekend.
  • Jacoby Johnson, Spalding University (Men's Basketball) Recorded 13 points, 9 rebounds, 10 assists, and 7 steals in a win over Westminster.
  • Ogechi Okpara, Fontbonne University (Track and Field) Two top-five finishes including 2nd in the weight throw with a PR of 48'9.5". 
  • Cheikh Thiam, Fontbonne University (Men's Basketball) Averaged 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in two games while shooting 56 percent from the field.
