Rodgers Lifts Gorloks to Win

While the top two scoring teams in the league met on Wednesday night in the SLIAC Game of the Week, the game turned out to be a defensive affair with Webster University picking up a 1-0 win over Greenville University.

The Gorloks outshot the Panthers 15-9 in the contest and put six shots on target compared to two from Greenville. The Gorloks came out in the first half of the game and controlled the possession early. They were able to get on the board in the 14th minute of the contest when Riley Wilder played a cross to Grace Rodgers who finished the pass into the bottom right corner of the net for her eighth tally of the year. The assist was Wilders second of the season.

Webster carried over their momentum into the second half and did a good job of keeping the possession. The Panthers applied heavy pressure as the half progressed but the defense stood strong as the Gorloks kept Greenville off the board to solidify the win.

Taryn Banfield was in goal for the Gorloks as she made two saves in her 29th career solo shutout. Her 29 solo shutouts put her just one back of Jessica Davis for the most solo shutouts in program history.

Webster improves to 8-6-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the SLIAC while Greenville is now 7-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in conference play.
