Brown Sets New Tigers Stolen Base Mark

The Iowa Wesleyan baseball team finished up their series against Eureka College this afternoon. After splitting yesterday, the teams competed for the rubber match.  The Red Devils bested the Tigers with a 25-7 win to take the series. After setting the record yesterday, Chazz Brown (SR/Chicago, IL) added to his career total and now has 52 stolen bases which broke Devin Smith's previous record of 49.

In today's game, the pitching struggles continued for the Tigers as they gave up 16 hits and 25 runs to the Red Devils.  Iowa Wesleyan put up two runs in the opening inning to take the lead. Ricardo Mollison (FR/Guayaquil, Ecuador) drove in the first run with an RBI double to left field, and Chazz Brown followed with an RBI single to center field.  Eureka was able to even the score in the bottom of the inning.

The Tigers went back in front in the second, scoring two runs on two hits.  Minami Matsumoto (SO/Pymble, Australia) and Jacob Leonard (JR/Aurora, IL) each recorded RBIs to put IW up 4-2. Once again, the Red Devils answered in the bottom half, this time taking the lead after scoring four runs.  Iowa Wesleyan was able to get a run back in the top of the third. Chazz Brown reached base after being hit by a pitch and moved up two bases after stealing second and getting to third on an error.  Brown came around to score after Jack de Burgh grounded out to the second baseman.

Eureka had another big inning with five runs coming in the bottom of the fourth.  Iowa Wesleyan was able to get two more runs across the plate, but the Red Devils answered with fourteen runs in the next two innings.  The Tigers were unable to get another run across the plate and dropped the rubber match to Eureka.

Minami Matsumoto and Chazz Brown led the IW offense with two hits apiece, and six different Tigers each had one RBI. Brown added two stolen bases against the Red Devils this afternoon.

Iowa Wesleyan will host Cornell College tomorrow at 5:30pm at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex. IW is now 4-14-1 overall and 2-5 in SLIAC play.
